Pavan asked me to build him a computer for his business.
Nothing ridiculous. A good CPU, a little GPU power for some light graphics work, and a solid reliable machine.
And that is what I built him.
I just may have gotten a little… enthusiastic about the definition of “business computer.” 😂
Somewhere between picking the parts and putting it together, it acquired gaming hardware and an entire monitor built into the front of the case.
Because apparently spreadsheets look better when your computer has its own TV. 😂
Will it run his business software? Absolutely.
Was any of this necessary? Absolutely not.
Would I build it any other way? Also absolutely not.
Enjoy the new “basic” office PC, Pavan. 😂🖥️🔥

OFF: Nothing to see here. 🖤
ON: Ohhhhh… there it is. 🔥
This might be one of the most beautiful desktops we’ve built, and its beauty is entirely in its simplicity.
When it’s powered off, it’s almost completely stealth. Black case. Smoked glass. No unnecessary decorations. No hint of what’s hiding inside.
Then you press the power button.
The RGB comes alive behind the glass, and the tiny round LCD displays built directly into the fan hubs suddenly appear, showing live CPU temperature, GPU temperature, load and system information.
No giant screen dominating the build.
No ridiculous amount of RGB.
No clutter.
Just enough technology showing through the darkness to make you stop and stare.
Sometimes the best-looking PC isn’t the one with the most stuff in it. It’s the one that knows exactly when to show off.
Double Helix PC 🧬
Beauty in the details.

How long have I been in the computer business?
Well… while packing up the shop today, I found this.
Charles Schwab ONLINE INVESTING software.
On a 3.5-inch floppy disk.
Disk 6 of 6.
Requires Windows 3.1 or later. 😂
We used to need SIX floppy disks just to get online and lose money in the stock market.
Nearly 18 years running DNA Computers, and apparently I’ve been doing this long enough that cleaning out the shop has turned into an IT archaeological excavation.
Somewhere in here is probably a 56K modem still trying to connect.
EEEEEE—KRRRRR—SHHHHHH—DING DING DING…
Kids, that was the sound of the Internet.

Goodbye, DNA Computers. ❤️

After nearly 18 years, the time has come to say goodbye.

DNA Computers will close its doors for the final time at the end of October.

And after nearly 18 years, that's incredibly difficult to write.

But we're not closed yet.

DNA Computers will remain open and continue accepting business throughout **September and October**. Repairs, upgrades, service work, computer sales, custom builds, business support, and everything else we normally do will continue during these final two months. If you need us, we're still here, and we'd love to see you.

When we started DNA Computers, we could never have imagined how many people would eventually walk through our doors. What began as a small local computer shop became nearly two decades of repairs, upgrades, custom builds, crazy projects, business networks, servers, data recoveries, house calls, late nights, impossible problems, and thousands upon thousands of conversations across the counter.

But more than anything, it became a community.

Some of you came to us once because your computer wouldn't turn on. Some of you have been coming to us for well over a decade. We watched your kids grow up. We helped your businesses grow. You sent your parents, your friends, your coworkers, and eventually even your children to us.

You trusted us with your computers, your businesses, your family photos, your important files, and sometimes with things that simply could not be replaced.

Thank you.

Thank you to every single person who walked through our doors.

Thank you to everyone who bought a computer from us, trusted us with a repair, called us for help, left us a review, recommended us to a friend, or simply stopped in to say hello.

Thank you to the businesses that trusted us with their technology.

Thank you to the customers who gave a little local computer shop the opportunity to stay in business for nearly 18 years.

There would never have been a DNA Computers without all of you.

And while this is the end of DNA Computers, thankfully it isn't the end of the people behind the counter.

Avi is opening a new business, Double Helix PC, a new company, with a new direction and a new beginning. But there is one very important thing coming with us:

The people.

The same familiar faces will be there. The same technicians. The same talent, experience, knowledge, curiosity, and willingness to tackle the weird problems nobody else wants to touch.

Double Helix PC will honor **ALL DNA Computers warranties**, and will offer many of the services you've relied on us for over the years, along with computers and hardware, but with a much greater focus on service, repair, custom work, business IT, used and refurbished hardware, and finding smart solutions rather than simply selling something new.

We're excited about what's coming.

But today isn't really about Double Helix.

Today is about saying goodbye to DNA Computers and recognizing what an incredible privilege it has been to serve this community for nearly 18 years.

We built computers here.

We repaired a ridiculous number of computers here.

We solved problems here.

We made mistakes here, learned here, experimented here, laughed here, occasionally wanted to throw a printer through a wall here, and made some lifelong friends here.

And none of it would have happened without you.

So for these last two months, **DNA Computers is still here, still open, and still accepting business throughout September and October.** We hope we'll get the chance to see many of you one more time before we turn off the lights and lock the doors for the final time.

From Gayle, Avi, and the entire DNA Computers family:

Thank you for nearly 18 incredible years.

Thank you for trusting us.

Thank you for supporting a small local business.

Thank you for allowing us to do what we love for as long as we did.

DNA Computers may be closing its doors, but the knowledge, the friendships, the experience, and the people who made this place what it was aren't going anywhere.

Goodbye, DNA Computers.

It's been one hell of a ride. ❤️

- Avi, Gayle & the DNA Computers Team

Mac Recovery Mode: “I’ve done all I can.”
Linux: “Hold my disk” 😂
Recovering a failing Apple SSD with SystemRescue + GNU ddrescue.
No brand loyalty. Just data. 🧬

When your Mac needs therapy, apparently you send it to Linux. 😂
Customer’s Mac decided it was done cooperating. macOS Recovery got us part of the way, but the SSD started throwing read errors while we were pulling the data.
So naturally, we booted SystemRescue Linux, identified the Apple APFS drive, prepared a separate recovery disk, and now GNU ddrescue is imaging the Mac’s failing SSD sector by sector, skipping the damaged areas so we can recover the good data first and come back for the stubborn bits afterward.
There’s something wonderfully ironic about watching a screen full of Linux commands rescue data from an Apple SSD.
Apple: “Think Different.”
Linux: “Fine. I’ll do it myself.” 😂
This is the part of computer repair I still love after all these years. Sometimes the answer isn’t a button, an app, or reinstalling the OS. Sometimes you have to understand what’s happening underneath all of it and use whatever tool gets the job done.
No brand loyalty in data recovery. Just results. 🧬💻
