As if on cue, when the moon is full, pregnant hammerheads begin an extraordinary journey across the Eastern Tropical Pacific, swimming nearly 30 miles a day for weeks to reach protected mangrove nurseries along the coast of Central America. Sadly, along their migratory routes, these mothers face a gauntlet of fishing hooks and nets where they can become entangled as bycatch.
