What a fantastic combined Intermediate & Advanced Obedience class we had! Every dog and handler showed up ready to work, and the progress was clear from start to finish. We focused on real-world skills that matter most: loose-leash walking through crowds and distractions, confident meets and greets, solid recalls from 15–20 feet past other dogs, small-group sit and down stays, automatic sits, and more. The teamwork on display was impressive—great job, everyone!

Monday Morning Group Class Highlights!

What an awesome session this morning despite a whole lot of distractions and a busy crowd! Our dogs handled it like pros—working through everything thrown their way and even staying focused while walking past reactive dogs that were lunging (with owners doing nothing to manage the behavior).

We covered:
Loose leash walking
Leave it
Watch me
Small group sit and down stays (5 minutes!)
Recalls
Meets and greets with a sit or down
People-watching practice with walkers, bikers, and joggers going by

🐾 Outdoor Group Obedience Class Highlights 🐾

There’s nothing quite like practicing obedience out in the real world. For the past 7 years we’ve been holding these group classes out and around town, giving dogs the chance to train with all the everyday distractions that make the skills stick: other dog owners, joggers, bikers, and curious passersby.

We focused on skills that keep walks enjoyable and safe for everyone:
• Sharing the path – Teaching dogs to move aside politely and keep a calm presence when space is tight
• Manners in motion – Maintaining focus and composure around people and dogs on the go
• Meeting & greeting – Polite approaches, no jumping, and respectful introductions
• Long-distance sit & down stays – Building reliability even when the handler steps farther away
• Recalls around distractions – Coming when called the first time, even with plenty of exciting things happening nearby

A big thank-you to everyone who stopped to watch! We’re excited that several of you will be joining the next Beginners class. Real-world practice like this is one of the best ways to help dogs become confident, well-mannered companions.

Twenty-five years ago, our nation was attacked. As an Air Force veteran, I still carry the weight of that day—the lives lost, the heroes who ran toward danger, and the quiet resolve that followed. A well-trained dog doesn’t just obey—it provides steady presence, focus, and loyalty when the world feels uncertain. For many veterans and first responders, that partnership becomes a lifeline.

Today, I pause with gratitude for those who gave everything, for the men and women who still stand watch, and for the four-legged teammates who quietly help so many of us keep moving forward.
