Open letter to the community from Krum ISD Superintendent:
June 2026 Construction Update: Building for the Future
As we move through the summer months, I wanted to take a moment to provide an update on the exciting construction projects taking place across Krum ISD. Thanks to the continued support of our community, many of the projects approved through our bond program are becoming reality, while others are just beginning to take shape.
One of the milestones we are most excited about is the opening of our new middle school. On June 29, we will begin moving furniture into the facility, which remains on schedule to welcome students in August 2026. This beautiful new campus represents a significant investment in the future of our students and will provide expanded opportunities for generations of Bobcats to come.
You will also begin seeing major activity at Krum High School. Construction is set to begin on the first phase of our high school expansion project, which will ultimately more than double the size of the current facility. The first visible step will be parking lot construction, expanding available parking from approximately 380 spaces to more than 600 spaces. Shortly thereafter, work will begin on the high school renovation and expansion project, adding more than 140,000 square feet of instructional, extracurricular, and student support space.
These projects are not simply about new buildings, they are about preparing for the future. Anyone driving through our district can see the tremendous growth occurring around us. With thousands of planned homes throughout our district's more than 120 square miles, Krum continues to be a destination for families seeking a strong educational experience and a great community.
We remain deeply grateful for the trust our community placed in us through the bond program. As construction costs have continued to fluctuate across the state and nation, our team has worked diligently to stretch every dollar possible while ensuring that we continue to meet the needs of our students and staff. We take seriously our responsibility to be good stewards of taxpayer resources.
In addition to the projects currently underway, we have already celebrated several major accomplishments, including:
The addition at Hansel Elementary
The new Krum Alternative Learning Center
The new Career and Technology Education Center
The completion of Victory Way, which has significantly improved access to our campuses and enhanced traffic flow
Each of these projects represents a strategic investment in the future of Krum ISD and reflects our commitment to providing safe, accessible, and innovative learning environments for our students and staff.
While these accomplishments are significant, they represent only a portion of the long-range planning taking place to ensure Krum ISD remains prepared for the growth and opportunities that lie ahead.
As we prepare to open the new middle school, the current middle school facility will continue to play an important role in our long-term plans. Initially, portions of the facility will be utilized for select special education services and may also serve as transitional space during the high school renovation process as needed.
Looking ahead, once the high school project is completed, our current plan is to renovate the existing middle school facility and convert it into an elementary campus. With a capacity of more than 700 students, this facility would allow us to relocate Dodd Elementary and significantly increase our ability to accommodate future elementary growth.
Once Dodd Elementary transitions to that facility, the current Dodd Elementary campus could potentially be repurposed to meet other district needs. Possibilities could include expanded student services, employee childcare, specialized educational programs, or other support services that benefit students, staff, and families. While those decisions remain years away, maintaining flexibility in our facilities planning allows us to respond strategically as the needs of our district evolve.
The complexity of planning for Krum ISD is that we are not simply building for the approximately 2,700 students we serve today. We are building capacity for the community Krum is becoming. Based on current development projections, our district may one day serve between 8,000 and 10,000 students. While that level of growth may be years away, proactive planning today creates opportunities for future generations of students and helps ensure we can continue providing the high-quality educational experience our community expects.
By making thoughtful investments now and maintaining a long-range perspective, we position Krum ISD to manage growth responsibly, maximize taxpayer resources, and preserve the traditions and values that make our district such a special place to learn, work, and raise a family.
Beyond these projects, we continue to focus on the future. We are actively working with developers and community partners to identify opportunities for future school sites within developing neighborhoods. As growth continues, our goal is to remain proactive in addressing both elementary and secondary facility needs while maintaining the high standards our community expects.
When the current middle school is ultimately converted into an elementary campus, Krum ISD will be positioned to accommodate projected growth for the foreseeable future. While growth projections can change over time, we are blessed to be in a position where the completion of the middle school and high school projects will provide significant capacity to serve students and families moving into our community.
This is truly an exciting time for Krum ISD. The opportunities before us are tremendous, and none of it would be possible without the support, trust, and partnership of our community.
As we continue this journey together, we look forward to engaging with parents, staff, students, business leaders, and community members, not only to discuss construction projects, but also to create opportunities for collaboration as we strategically plan for growth, academic excellence, fiscal responsibility, facility utilization, and the continued success of our district.
Thank you for believing in our students and investing in the future of Bobcat Nation.
It's a great day to be a Bobcat!
