We took a drive down to Pecan Island to see the SpaceX site for ourselves.

The first photo is the site as it looks today: open marsh, big blue sky, and water. The second is the view from a camp nearby, looking out toward where it will be. It's easy to see why people love it down here.

However you feel about the project, it's a big moment for Vermilion Parish and all of Acadiana, and I wanted to see it with my own eyes.

We're also listening and learning from folks in the Brownsville, Texas area who have already lived through this kind of change. Their experience helps us know what to watch for.

In the meantime, I'm keeping an eye on homes and land around Abbeville, Kaplan, Maurice, and Erath.

One of my favorite places in all of Acadiana is Rip Van Winkle Gardens on Jefferson Island. The oak trees, the peacocks wandering around, and lunch at Café Jefferson looking out over historic Lake Peigneur.

Order the crab au gratin. Trust me. It's so fabulous it's been featured in a magazine.

Saturday is PACKED with UL Lafayette Homecoming, Roberts Cove Germanfest, farmers markets, the CFMA Cajun Jam, Sugar Jam, and Louisiana Football vs. Arkansas State at Cajun Field! 🏈

And now Sunday has even more to enjoy! 🏃‍♀️🎃🎶 Head to Youngsville for the Sugarman Triathlon or Patch at the Park, enjoy the KBON Music Festival or Louisiana Cattle Festival, and wrap up the weekend with Le Bal du Dimanche at Vermilionville.
