Great example of turning cybersecurity standards into something you can reason over.
CyberTerrain transforms STIX 2.1 data into a standards-compliant OWL knowledge graph, preserving provenance while enabling richer semantic relationships across ATT&CK, CWE, CAPEC, NIST and CIS.
The graph shown in the post is rendered directly from a SPARQL query against an AllegroGraph repository using Gruff.
From strings to things — and from threat data to connected, queryable cybersecurity knowledge.
STIX to STONES – CyberTerrain Deep Dives STIX to STONES ByRyan Hohimer August 11, 2026 Faithfully Changing Strings to Things STIX 2.1 is the industry’s shared language for describing threats — intrusion sets, attack patterns, indicators, and the relationships between them, exchanged as JSON. It’s widely adopted, and for go...

We’re pleased to share that Dr. Jans Aasman, CEO of Franz Inc., will be speaking at STIDS 2026 — Semantic Technology for Intelligence, Defense, and Security, taking place May 27–28, 2026 at George Mason University’s Fuse at Mason Square in Arlington, Virginia.
STIDS brings together leaders from academia, government, and industry to explore the role of semantic technologies in intelligence, defense, and security. This year’s program highlights a timely theme: integrating AI with semantic technologies, knowledge graphs, and data fabrics to support trustworthy and explainable reasoning across complex data ecosystems.
Jans’ joint presentation with Dave McComb and Ryan Hohimer - "Semantic Interoperability in Cybersecurity: Harmonizing Threat Intelligence with gist and gistCyber"
Cybersecurity data is fragmented across organizations, standards, and formats, making semantic interoperability a critical challenge. This paper presents gistCyber, an ontology that extends the minimalist enterprise framework gist into the cybersecurity domain. By harmonizing reference datasets such as MITRE ATT&CK, CAPEC, CVE, and NIST SP 800-53, gistCyber enables unified reasoning, federated querying, and scalable threat analysis. We demonstrate its utility through a practical use case involving SPARQL-based integration of vulnerabilities, weaknesses, attack patterns, and controls. The results show that semantic alignment is not only feasible but essential for intelligent cyber defense.

We’re pleased to share that Dr. Jans Aasman, CEO of Franz Inc., will be presenting at the 2026 Data-Centric Architecture Forum, taking place June 9–11 in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Jans’ session, “The Knowledge Graph as an Agentic Control Plane for Data-Centric Architecture,” will explore how knowledge graphs provide the governed semantic layer AI agents need to operate reliably across enterprise systems. Rather than simply giving agents access to tools, APIs, databases, and documents, organizations need a way to capture what the data means, where it lives, how it is related, what rules apply, and what context can be trusted.
The Data-Centric Architecture Forum brings together leaders in data-centric architecture, semantic technology, and intelligent systems for three days of real-world insight, implementation strategy, and community discussion. We’re looking forward to contributing to this important conversation.

AllegroGraph v9 is here, introducing GraphTalker — a major advancement in how users and AI agents interact with enterprise Knowledge Graphs.
GraphTalker is not simply a “chat with your data” feature. It is a natural-language interface deeply integrated with AllegroGraph, designed to help users explore graph structure, understand schema context, construct better queries, and retrieve grounded answers from trusted enterprise knowledge.
As organizations move from experimentation with Generative AI toward governed, explainable AI systems, the Knowledge Graph becomes increasingly important. It provides the semantic layer, context, relationships, provenance, and rules that AI agents need to operate safely and intelligently.
With AllegroGraph v9, GraphTalker makes that semantic foundation more accessible to business users, data scientists, Knowledge Graph developers, and application teams.
