Most leadership development begins with what a leader needs to 𝗱𝗼.

Communicate better.
Delegate more effectively.
Manage time.
Handle conflict.
Build the team.

Those skills matter. I've spent years learning and teaching them.

But knowing what good leadership looks like and consistently living it are not always the same thing.

Take time management.

You can learn a better system, organize your calendar and become more efficient.

But what if the real issue isn't time?

What if you've never really stopped to discern your true priorities?

What if you're doing things that belong to someone else because asking for help is difficult?

What if you've convinced yourself there isn't anyone else who can do it?

Another time management technique may help you fit more in.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴.

That's why INTEGRATED begins somewhere different.

𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴.

Because wherever we lead, we bring ourselves with us. Our experiences, strengths, beliefs, stress patterns, blind spots and relationship with the Lord all influence how we show up.

Some we're aware of. Some quietly drive us without our realizing it.

INTEGRATED creates the space to notice what's driving us, listen and discern with the Lord, and bring what we discover into greater order and alignment with how we actually lead.

Because leadership isn't simply something we learn.

𝗜𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲.

Competence is a gift.

And for highly capable people, it can quietly become a trap.

“I can do it faster.”
“It’s easier if I handle it.”
“They already have enough to do.”
“I don’t have time to explain it.”

So you keep carrying it.

Not necessarily because it is yours to carry, but because you 𝗰𝗮𝗻.

Over time, competence can lead us far beyond our healthy capacity. And sometimes, the very strength that helped us become successful begins working against us and the people around us.

Maybe the question isn’t simply:

𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗜 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀?

Maybe it’s:

𝗜𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘆?

That distinction matters.

𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻...

This morning we welcomed the first 𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 INTEGRATED Leaders cohort.

I've been asked for a way to make this work accessible to leaders beyond those who can gather with us in person. Today, we opened that door.

For the next six months, these leaders are stepping into a different kind of leadership development.

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀. 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗻. 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁.

Because you can be 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲. You can know how to lead and still struggle to delegate.

Be successful and still question whether you're doing what you're actually called to do.

Serve others well while consistently neglecting yourself.
Look composed while internally carrying far more than anyone realizes.

Those aren't separate from leadership.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 "𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻" 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂.

That's why INTEGRATED doesn't separate leadership development from the rest of the human being.

Pope Leo XIV speaks of our “𝙙𝙪𝙩𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙡𝙮 𝙝𝙪𝙢𝙖𝙣.”

Those words hit hard in a world moving faster by the day.

Perhaps part of that duty is refusing to live fragmented lives. To become more anchored, more integrated, and better able to live and lead from that place.

𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆, including another virtual cohort.

Knowing and doing are 𝗡𝗢𝗧 the same thing.

A leader can know how to delegate and still 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 everything 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸.

Know the importance of boundaries and still remain 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲.

Know how to have a difficult conversation and continue 𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 it.

Know the importance of prayer and still make the decision 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 creating enough space to 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻.

At some point, another 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 may not be the answer.

Sometimes leadership development needs to move beneath 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼 and begin exploring 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁.

That is where things get interesting. ;)

Sometimes we know exactly what to do.

We know we need to delegate.
Have the conversation.
Protect the time.
Slow down.
Pray before deciding.

And yet we still don't do it.

Maybe the next question isn't, 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘥𝘰 𝘐 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥?

Maybe it is, 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘢𝘭𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘴𝘰 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦?
