I’ve been playing drums and gigging for 50 years, and here’s one piece of drum hardware design I think has outlived its usefulness:
Why are hi-hat pull rods still screwed into the base of the stand?
I’m sure there was a good reason originally—probably so you could take the stand apart for transport. But does anybody actually do that anymore? I never have. Most hardware cases are plenty long enough to carry a hi-hat stand without removing the rod.
The only time I ever have to deal with that threaded connection is when the pull rod unscrews itself.
I could use Loctite or a vice grip but we still solving a problem that probably hasn’t been a problem for decades?
Hi-hat manufacturers: just give us a pull rod that stays attached. I promise I’m not taking it apart.

11 Years Ago we assembled a band of young musicians together, taught them how to practice together, sing and play a ten song set list. They performed a concert and played an opening g for one of our drum clinicians. It seems like yesterday to me. I wonder where those kids in the band CHANCE are today?
