Sometimes you just need a good cup of coffee, a little sunshine, somewhere interesting to wander into, something delicious for lunch, and enough time to follow your every whim and curiosity.

Leaving the house after a long day or week of work isn’t always appealing, but somehow it’s always worth it! This particular side quest from the suburbs took us through downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania: coffee, art, farmers market ,lunch, shopping, a little European w**e tasting, and a lot of walking around with nowhere else we needed to be.

And while we’re happy to give you the itinerary below, the itinerary is not the point. The point is noticing, smelling and gushing over the flowers at each market stand.
Trying the thing you’ve never tried.
Taking the long way.
Indulging in the sweet treat
Buying the weird little thing you absolutely did not need.
Sitting in the sunshine for another 20 minutes.
Letting a Saturday be just a Saturday.

Apparently, September 26th is the day Lancaster decided to give us both a history lesson and an excuse to order another round. 🍸🦪

We’ve been telling you there are plenty of reasons to make your way downtown for Capital Day… and now we’re adding oysters to the list.

🦪 Oysterfest at Annie Bailey’s
Starting at 11AM, Annie Bailey’s is bringing back Oysterfest with oysters raw, fried, grilled, baked & every which way you can imagine, plus Irish music ALL DAY, Kilkenny on tap, Irish flights, and their legendary Bloody Mary Bar.

🇺🇸 Lancaster Capital Day
All day in downtown Lancaster, celebrate the history of the day Lancaster became the capital of the United States in 1777, with special experiences, local businesses, food, drinks, history, and plenty to explore around the city.

And when the sun starts going down? 🍸
Capital Day continues into the evening with participating bars, restaurants & cocktail spots serving up special drinks, trivia, and a few surprises. There’s even talk of a post-Capital Day bar crawl… 👀

So basically: come curious, come hungry, and maybe leave some room for oysters.
