Definition: A day or period of rest and worship observed in obedience to God.
We often think of rest as something we earn.
“I’ll rest when I finish.”
“I’ll rest when things slow down.”
“I’ll rest when everything gets done.”
But what if biblical rest was never meant to be a reward for productivity?
What if it’s something much deeper?
Sabbath has always pointed beyond itself.
It reminds us that true rest isn’t ultimately found in a day off…it is found in a Person.
Jesus said,
“Come to me… and I will give you rest.”
The goal of Sabbath isn’t simply to stop working.
It’s to spend time with the ONE who gives rest to our souls.
No agenda.
No productivity.
No checking boxes.
No rushing to the next thing.
Just being with your Father.
If that question feels uncomfortable…
Maybe that’s exactly why we need Sabbath.
Stopping isn’t easy.
Not because we don’t have time.
But because we’ve become convinced that everything depends on us.
Sabbath reminds us of something freeing:
God is still God…
Even when we stop working.
God isn’t keeping score.
He’s not tapping His foot because you missed your quiet time.
He’s inviting you into His presence today.
Right now.
Not because you’ve earned it…
Because He loves you.
Slow down.
He’s already waiting.
