Our volunteers have been busy in Phoenixville this fall! 🍂And each task they completed helped us love our neighbors facing homelessness a little better.

A big Good Sam thank you to:

🤝Johnson & Johnson who finished up some painting in our office in Phoenixville and cleaned out the kitchen and living room in our transitional housing!
🤝The crew from SEI Investments Company who helped kickstart a new flooring project at our single dads home and conquered some much-needed deep cleaning
🤝Students from Villanova University who stepped up to clean our office and beautify the gardens and parking lot.

Each group showed up with joy and excitement, and we are grateful for their helping hands and servant hearts! 🧡💙

These incredible people from Lebanon Federal Credit Union dropped off a donation of essential cleaning supplies for our properties and brought smiles with them. ✨

He has been working hard in our program and just THIS week reached one of his big goals: moving out into his very own apartment.

John came to us after experiencing homelessness and has steadily worked towards this goal. Now with his own apartment, he hopes to soon reunite with his young son and welcome him home.

JJ’s story is why personalized support and case management is so essential. 🤝

When JJ arrived at our Winter Shelter, she faced the added challenge of navigating homelessness as a deaf individual. Thankfully, our Lead Resource Coordinator, Janessa, was able to meet JJ where she was at, literally speaking her language through American Sign Language (ASL).

Through personalized case management in ASL, JJ could ask questions, understand her options, and access resources without the communication barriers she had faced for so long.

Together, they worked toward stability, including securing medication support. And soon, something life-changing happened: JJ was approved for permanent, affordable housing at the YWCA. 🏡👏

JJ’s story is just one example of how personalizing support is essential and why we believe in the power of seeing each person’s journey as unique.

Our community invests so much in Good Sam and our participants so we had to take some time giving back. Our staff loved volunteering at the Akron Lion’s Club, serving up some tasty food at this year’s Ephrata Fair! 🍔🍟

We talk a lot about the importance of affordable housing, but have you ever thought about the importance of transportation? 🚗

For those working hard to reach stability, finding reliable transportation can be a key aspect of their journey to stability.

Without it, it can be hard to get to and from work, find affordable housing with access to public transportation, and reach important resources. Even a simple task like getting groceries can take on a whole different meaning.

At Good Sam, we are walking beside our participants daily, helping them find solutions to barriers like this one so they can regain stability and thrive. ✨

Good Samaritan Services (Good Sam) Gets it Done by helping people move from crisis to stability.

Homelessness can happen to anyone. Sometimes, it’s just one crisis away.

For Nate Hoffer, Executive Director of Good Samaritan Services, the work is about much more than providing shelter. It’s about showing up—every day, around the clock—to help people move from crisis to stability.

Good Sam serves up to 300 men, women, and children each day across five locations in Lancaster and Chester counties, providing emergency shelter, transitional and affordable housing, eviction prevention, rental assistance, case management, and more.

Olivia came to Good Sam after graduating from high school, pregnant and without a support system. She gave birth while living in the organization’s shelter. Today, she is living independently, working and raising her healthy, thriving seven-month-old son.

Then there’s Tom, a successful business owner whose serious medical condition led to the loss of his business, relationship and home. After coming through the Good Sam program, Tom is now a Good Sam employee, serving as a house manager for three homes and mentoring other men on their own journeys.

As Nate says, “homelessness is often situational. People can be one episode away or one situation away from needing help."
