September may be over, but the conversation about su***de prevention cannot end with Su***de Prevention Awareness Month.
As we step into a new month, weāre carrying this conversation forward by sharing Jasperās story.
In this deeply personal reflection, Jasper shares her experience as a trans womanāthe challenges of finding belonging, the impact of stigma, the people who helped them feel seen, and why creating spaces where LGBTQ+ young people feel safe asking for help is an important part of su***de prevention. š Read Jasperās full story on our blog: https://touchstonefound.org/more-than-crisis-prevention-creating-spaces-where-lgbtq-youth-can-belong/
Her story reminds us that prevention can begin long before a moment of crisis.
It can look like listening without judgment. Using someoneās name and pronouns. Checking in. Creating spaces where people feel welcome. Helping someone connect with support. Simply reminding someone: you belong here.
We invite you to read Jasperās story with care, listen to their perspective, and consider:
What can each of us do to make it easier for someone to say, āIām struggling,ā and know they will be met with compassion?
Su***de prevention is not confined to September. Letās carry awareness, connection, and care forwardātogether.
Need someone to talk to? Support is available:
š³ļøāš Trevor Lifeline: 1-866-488-7386
Text START to 678-678
Free, confidential crisis support for LGBTQ+ young people.
š³ļøāā§ļø Trans Lifeline: 877-565-8860
Peer support by and for trans and questioning peopleāyou do not have to be in crisis to call.
š³ļøāš LGBT National Youth Talkline: 800-246-7743
These resources offer confidential support for conversations about sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, coming out, family, relationships, bullying, school, mental health, and more.
You do not have to navigate any difficult moment alone.
