Fix-it Friday: Alienware Motherboard Replacement
Today, our PC technician, Daniel is replacing the motherboard on an Alienware gaming laptop. This video shows the numerous steps that can go into the process of a replacment of a single component. We often hear, "Isn't it as simple as just popping in a new part?" This video is a good example of how many parts may be intertwined for a single part to be replaced.

Throwback Thursday: On this day 10/1/1982
The First CD Player, the Sony CDP-101 debuted in Japan. CD architecture shaped how modern computers learned to read digital data. A single disc could store over 500 to 700 megabytes of digital data, equal to hundreds of thousands of text pages. Companies stopped shipping heavy stacks of floppy disks. They started selling operating systems, games, & large encyclopedias on a single CD.

Tech Tip Tuesday: Power Cycling Devices
Power cycling devices clears temporary memory, resets hardware connections, and fixes frozen software by completely draining power from internal components
How to Do It Right:
1. Turn off the device using its normal menu or power button.
2. Unplug the power cord from the wall or the back of the device.
3. Wait for at least 30 seconds so all stored electrical charge completely drains.
4. Press the power button again to completely discharge any remaining current.
5. Plug it back in and turn the device on.
Why Power Cycle?
1. Clears RAM & Cache: Unplugging a device lets power drain from internal capacitors, erasing stuck data or leaked memory that a normal software restart might miss.
2. Resets Network Gear: Modems and routers clear clogged routing tables & get a fresh connection or IP address from your internet provider.
3. Fixes Frozen Hardware: It forces unresponsive chips, ports (like USB or Ethernet), & controllers to reinitialize from a clean baseline.

Moxie Monday:
There is a reason Moxie doesn't work the front desk anymore. She tried to take payment in dog treats and belly rubs. Our vendors & utilities don't take such forms of payment. This is why she was transferred to customer service manager. She seems to be much happier in this position.

Meet the Team Monday:
Meet our owner, Amara: Amara is a Michigan-native & MSU grad. She moved to Lansing for school, but loved the Eastside so much, she stayed. After graduating, she started working at Apple. After nearly 5 years at Apple, she transferred to Capitol Mac to focus more on customers & repairs. When the shop went up for sale, she decided to purchase it. Amara is passionate about owning one of the only women-owned computer shops in Michigan & offering a customer-centric approach in an increasingly impersonal world.
