Heaven on Surf 09/28/2026

Halloween is on a Saturday this year, and we have the beach week around it open. πŸŽƒ

Heaven on Surf on Okaloosa Island in Fort Walton Beach is available October 22 through November 1 β€” the last full week we have there with the beach service still running.

Late October on this coast is a genuinely great trick: the water is still swimmable, October is the driest month of the year here, days run warm and evenings finally cool off, and the beach belongs to whoever shows up. Two beach chairs and an umbrella are still set up for you out on the sand every day through the end of the month.

Gulf views from the living room and the balcony. One flight of stairs or a short elevator ride down, then two or three minutes to the water over a ramped walkover. Right-sized for a couple or a small family who want a quiet week, not a schedule.

Costumes optional. Dates here:

Heaven on Surf The sand is a 2 to 3 minute walk from your door. Take the stairs if you are in a hurry, or the elevator, which sits a few steps from the condo door. Either way you come out at ground level, and from there nothing between you and the water has a step in it. The east building's walkover crosses the du...

September is nearly gone at Heaven on Surf β€” but the best week of it is still open. 🌊

Our Gulf-view condo on Okaloosa Island in Fort Walton Beach is available September 27 through October 6. Ten straight nights, so take the whole stretch or pick your week out of it.

Late September into early October is our favorite window on this coast, and it isn't close. The Gulf is still warm from a full summer of sun. The crowds went back to school weeks ago. October is the driest month of the year here. And the light in the evening gets that low gold you only see once summer lets go.

It's an easy place to be. One flight of stairs or a short elevator ride from our door to ground level β€” no waiting on a high-rise elevator behind everybody's beach carts β€” then two or three minutes to the sand over a ramped dune walkover, so coolers and carts roll straight down. Low enough that you hear the surf instead of just looking at it. Two beach chairs and an umbrella are set up for you out on the sand every day through October.

Right-sized for a couple or a small family. Dates and rates here:

Labor Day weekend is here and both our homes have been full all weekend. πŸŽ‰

Thank you β€” genuinely. That's the last big weekend of summer done, and every bed in both places was spoken for.

So here's the honest follow-up, because people always ask: the next stretch we'd book for ourselves is the last week of September into early October. The summer crowd is gone, the water is still warm, and October is the driest month of the year here. It's the version of this coast we'd want you to see.

Both homes have dates open in that window. If a fall trip has been sitting in the back of your mind, this is the month to move it to the front.

There are sea turtle nests on our beach right now, and the season runs through October 31. 🐒

Most visitors have no idea. Here's the short version of being a good neighbor to them:

πŸŒ‘ Lights out toward the water after dark. Hatchlings navigate by the brightest horizon, and a beachfront porch light or a phone flashlight sends them the wrong way. Close the blinds on beachfront windows at night.
πŸ•³οΈ Fill in the holes the kids dug, and knock down the sandcastles before you head in. A hatchling that falls into a hole doesn't get out.
πŸͺ‘ Take everything off the sand at the end of the day. Chairs, umbrellas, tents and toys left overnight are obstacles.
🚫 Never touch a nest, a marker, or a turtle β€” and if you see a nesting turtle or hatchlings, stay well back and keep the light off.

Okaloosa County has a lighting ordinance for exactly this reason, and it's one of the easiest good deeds on a beach trip. Flat, dark, clear sand. That's the whole ask.

Save this one for your next beach night πŸ”–

Pure DESTINation 09/03/2026

October in Destin is the month locals keep for themselves β€” and this year we have it almost entirely open. πŸ‚

Pure DESTINation, our three-bedroom townhome in Destin, has October 6 through November 1 available. Nearly the whole month, yours to pick from.

Here's why October is the one we'd choose: it's the driest month of the year on this coast, the Gulf is still carrying summer's warmth, the crowds went home in August, and the whole month the Destin Fishing Rodeo is running on the harbor β€” free to walk up and watch the boats weigh in.

The house is built for a group that wants to be together: three real bedrooms, a private grill-out patio, and a private community beach a two-minute walk from the front door. Two beach chairs and an umbrella are set up out on the sand for you every day through October β€” nobody hauls gear from the car.

Reunion, friends' week, a long-overdue trip with the people you never see enough. Pick your dates:

Pure DESTINation The sand is a 2 to 3 minute walk from your front door. Pure DESTINation is Southbay 80, on the south side of the complex - the side closest to the water - and the south pool is closer still. No high rise, no lobby, no elevator. You park, you walk in your own front door, and the beach is right there.

The week after Labor Day is when this coast quietly changes hands. 🌊

Every year it's the same, and every year it catches first-timers off guard:

β˜€οΈ The beach empties. School is back everywhere, and by the second week of September you can walk a long stretch of sand without stepping around anybody.
🌑️ The Gulf is at its warmest point of the entire year. A whole summer of sun went into that water, and it holds the heat deep into October.
🍽️ You can get a table. No hour-long wait, no calling three places.
πŸš— Parking stops being a competitive sport.

Same sand, same water, a fraction of the people. If you've only ever come down in July, September and October are honestly a different coast.

What's your favorite month down here? πŸ‘‡

A quick, honest word on booking direct 🀝

When you book a beach house through the big travel sites, you're often paying service fees that can tack on a lot to your total β€” and we're paying commissions on our end. Booking direct with us at thewayvacations.com cuts out the middleman on both sides. That usually means a better deal for you and a real, direct line to us β€” the owners β€” for anything you need before or during your stay.

Same two homes, same beach, less overhead. Heaven on Surf on Okaloosa Island, Fort Walton Beach (sleeps 6) and Pure DESTINation in Destin (sleeps 10).

Locals will tell you a secret: September might be the best month here. πŸ‚

The water is still bath-warm from a whole summer of sun, the crowds thin out once school's back, the light gets that softer gold, and everything's a little easier β€” parking, dinner tables, elbow room on the sand. If you can slip away after the summer rush, this is the window.

Shhh. Don't tell everyone. πŸ˜‰

Labor Day is booked solid. The week after is the one we'd pick anyway. 🌊

Heaven on Surf on Okaloosa Island in Fort Walton Beach is open September 27 through October 6 β€” one of only two full weeks we have left there before November.
