Working for the people

in Lansing fighting to protect Michigan families! I introduced HB 6392 to establish civil liability when an AI system misidentifies a person or vehicle and that error leads to a harmful law enforcement action. The bill gives a path to seek damages for an injury, death, or property damage caused by that misidentification.
AI is advancing rapidly, but these systems can and do get things wrong. Government can’t wait until people are harmed to respond. This bill is a great first step toward protecting Michiganders and ensuring there is accountability when these tools fail.

Working families deserve a fair chance to recover from financial hardship without putting their property at risk. Michigan House Democrats are ready to pass these critical protections. House Republicans stood in the way last time, and I hope they don’t this time. Michigan workers deserve better.

I am deeply humbled to be featured in Dr. David C. Strubler’s book, The “Good Politics” of Interdependent Leadership.
The premise of this book speaks to what I believe about public service: meaningful leadership is never the work of one person. It happens when people from government, education, business, nonprofit organizations and the community unite around a shared purpose.
Chapter 2, “Tiny House Redemption,” tells the story of leaders working together to create hands-on training and career opportunities for young people in Pontiac. I am grateful that my role in helping secure an additional $200,000 in state funding is included, but this recognition belongs to the entire team that turned an idea into opportunity.
Thank you, Dr. Strubler, for documenting this work and reminding us that “good politics” is possible when leadership is rooted in collaboration, service and a purpose greater than ourselves.

National leadership should deliver real results for the people we serve.
Through NCOIL, I sponsored the Model Act Regarding Life Insurers’ Use of Genetic Information, protecting families from the improper use of genetic information.
I also worked to co-sponsor two important measures:
• The Maternal Health Resolution with Pennsylvania Representative Greg Scott, advancing maternal-mortality prevention, better data, doula access and maternal mental-health care.
• The adopted Charity Medical Care and Medical Debt Reform Model Act with Texas Representative Tom Oliverson, M.D., and Minnesota Senator Paul Utke, helping patients receive financial assistance before collection and protecting emergency-care medical debt from credit reports.
Now, I am preparing for the next step. In Sanibel, I will begin bipartisan discussions with New Hampshire Senator Bill Gannon on a national prosthetics model designed to expand access to activity-specific prostheses for people with limb loss or limb difference.
This work brings Michigan—and the voices of Pontiac, Waterford Township and Auburn Hills—to the national policy table. My goal is clear: stronger consumer protections, greater health equity and more affordable, accessible care for the people of House District 53.

🚨 You could still qualify for Medicaid—and lose your coverage because of paperwork.
Beginning January 1, 2027, certain Michigan adults will face new Medicaid work-reporting requirements, and many Healthy Michigan Plan members will have their eligibility reviewed every six months.
Act now: Update your contact information at Michigan.gov/MIBridges, open every Medicaid notice, respond by the deadline and keep documents that show your work, education or exemption status.
For Medicaid questions and renewals, call MDHHS at 1-800-642-3195, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–7 p.m.
If you cannot resolve your case, contact your state representative for assistance. House District 53 residents may reach my office at (517) 373-2577 or [email protected].
Health care should never be lost because someone missed a form or could not navigate the system alone. Please share this warning—someone’s coverage may depend on it.
