In this episode of UnHoused and UnFiltered, Sarah Prout-Rennie turns the spotlight on co-host Nick Cook and the work he does outside of the State Capitol—as a co-founder of Michigan HOPE, a veteran-led nonprofit providing street outreach in the Lansing area. Nick shares what it actually looks like to enter encampments with food, hygiene supplies, socks, blankets and other essentials, while building the trust that allows outreach workers to recognize when someone is sick, injured or in immediate danger.

It Is International Podcast Day!
UnHoused and UnFiltered | Caring Without Burnout
This is the week (and the day) to listen.
https://rss.com/podcasts/unhoused-unfiltered-mcah-s-podcast/3190371
With the CoC NOFO deadline today, housing and homelessness professionals across Michigan are carrying enormous pressure—finalizing applications, protecting critical resources, supporting teams, and still showing up every day for people who need housing and services.
That’s why this week’s UnHoused and UnFiltered episode feels especially timely.
In “Caring Without Burning Out: Boundaries, Resilience and Joy in Advocacy,” Nick Cook and Sarah Prout-Rennie talk about the stress of this work, the pressure to carry every outcome, and why boundaries, connection, community and joy are essential to staying in this work for the long haul.
If you are working through the NOFO deadline today, make time to listen later. Put it on during your commute, over lunch, or when you need a reminder that caring deeply does not mean carrying everything.
🎙️ Listen to UnHoused and UnFiltered this week. You may need this conversation more than you think.
