Michigan Water Environment Association
MWEA represents more than 2,000 water quality professionals statewide who are dedicated to preserving, restoring and enhancing Michigan's water resources.
Established in 1925, the Michigan Water Environment Association is an organization of water quality professionals who are recognized as authorities on and advocates for preserving, restoring, and enhancing Michigan’s water resources. MWEA is a member association of the Water Environment Federation (WEF) an international organization with more than 100,000 water quality professionals from 79 Member Associations in 32 countries. Comprised of professionals who work in the water environment, MWEA and WEF are different from other water environmental groups. Our members the have hands-on responsibility for ensuring the health & safety of our water environment. Educating the public and particularly our youth is very important to MWEA. We have several programs to ensure that school-age children receive information on the water environment and how they and their parent can affect and protect that environment. Our members can provide local schools with videos and other curriculum materials to teach students about water and wastewater. Our Adopt-A-School program offers municipalities, businesses, and concerned citizens an opportunity to provide water curriculum materials to local schools. Creating awareness about careers in water and wastewater is also an important part of our community program. Through MWEA’s Speaker’s Bureau, presentations can be provided to schools and other organizations on all aspects of the water environment. MWEA also awards scholarships to students enrolled in college degree programs. Committee Opportunities

💧 Good news for small communities.
The U.S. EPA has announced that it is waiving WIFIA loan application fees for eligible small communities, helping reduce barriers to financing critical drinking water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This change could make it easier for smaller utilities to access affordable funding for much-needed improvements.
If your community is planning infrastructure upgrades, this is worth a look.
