People are PROTECTED when criminals are PUNISHED.

Our bills to establish new, stronger penalties for sexual assault criminals are headed to the Senate. Criminals need to know they will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

🚨The MDHHS and MPHI audit revealed some OUTRAGEOUS numbers that were on display in the recent Oversight hearing.

With House Republican oversight, this doesn't get to be swept under the rug anymore. Here's how the money flowed from an official state department to a nonprofit it created and still oversees⬇️

The numbers:

$435 million - the amount of taxpayer dollars in total agreements between MDHHS and MPHI for 2024-2025 — auditors sampled 20 worth $90 million and found deficiencies in ALL 20

$108 million - amount paid out BEFORE MDHHS ever reviewed documentation proving the work was done

$199 million - amount in payments approved on financial status reports by MPHI-affiliated staff and/or MDHHS staff who previously worked at MPHI — including $12.2 million approved by staff working on the very same agreements they signed off on

~1% - how many of MPHI's agreements involved the university research the law actually requires — despite
$162 million going to MPHI staff salaries and benefits, and roughly 750 MPHI staff answering to MDHHS supervisors

$1.8 million - the amount MDHHS overbilled in indirect costs at a 17.5% rate instead of the 4.9% rate that applied

~80% - amount of sampled agreements that had NO required deliverables, with $10.6 million in project spending NEVER EVEN REPORTED to the Legislature

$11.4 million - amount sent to a Los Angeles law firm in a total $12.7 million agreement (nearly 90% sent to the firm)

Your land is your land, even if there’s no house on it.

HB 6128 cleared the Judiciary Committee this week. It shuts down the “open fields” loophole so law enforcement and state agencies can’t treat private property like public ground. If they want to walk around on it, they need a warrant or your permission.

“No Trespassing” means no trespassing, not "No Trespassing unless you're employed by the government."

Michigan's laws need to be stronger for one of the worst crimes imaginable: sexual assault.

Our bills, passed this week, are set to change that. We strengthened penalties for first-, second-, & third-degree sexual assault.

These bills will not only ensure criminals have a punishment waiting for them on the other side of a crime, they will also PROTECT people from becoming victims of this horrible crime.

Part of preventing the next crime victim is ensuring there are severe punishments waiting on the other side for criminals.

That's why we passed bills out of the House to create stronger penalties for first-, second-, and third-degree sexual assault. These criminals MUST be held accountable.

Since taking back the House in 2024, Michigan House Republicans have been focused on bringing accountability to state government and restoring the people's trust in our elected officials.

Banning politicians from becoming lobbyists. Cleaning up the budget process. Ending massive severance packages for state employees. And our most recent addition: protecting ratepayers by banning politicians from handing out fat grants to green energy companies and then landing sweetheart gigs with them right afterward.

Yet another measure of H.E.A.T. has passed the House, bringing accountability to government and redirecting politicians' focus to the people they represent.
