At Empowered GOALS Center, part of our Friday Field Adventures includes opportunities for our learners to experience something we believe is incredibly important:
Serving their community. 🌳
This year, our learners and families will have the opportunity to participate in the 2026 Kindness Outreach, organized by The Serial Volunteer and You're Built For This. 🥰
Our learners will have a special role in the project, helping to build the first-aid portion of the Kindness Kits that will be distributed to our neighbors experiencing homelessness. ❤️
It's a hands-on opportunity for them to experience something we hope stays with them:
You don't have to be an adult to make a meaningful difference in your community.
Our collective goal is to serve 100 of our neighbors experiencing homelessness in 2026, and thanks to an incredible response from our community, we now need the equivalent of only 25 more $10 Kind Hearts! 🎉
We are incredibly grateful for every person who has contributed supplies or funds, shared the outreach, or offered their support.
Your generosity isn't only helping provide practical necessities to our neighbors-in-need.
❤️ You're also helping create an authentic service-learning opportunity for our learners.
They'll have the chance to use their own time and effort to contribute to something bigger than themselves—and see firsthand what can happen when a community comes together to care for others.

Okay, y'all... LOOK AT THIS NUMBER. 😳❤️
When we first calculated what we still needed for our 2026 Kindness Outreach, we needed the equivalent of:
❤️ 63 MORE $10 KIND HEARTS.
Today?
❤️ WE ONLY NEED 25 MORE! ❤️
63 → 25! 🎉🌳
That means our community has already covered approximately 60% of the remaining need through donated supplies and financial contributions.
And every single bit of that happened because individual people decided:
“I can help with part of it.”
THAT is the beauty of community. 🥹
Nobody has to fund an entire outreach.
One person gives $10.
Someone else buys a box of supplies.
Another sends an item from the Wish List.
Someone shares the post.
Someone volunteers to help pack the kits.
And eventually, all of those individual acts of kindness come together to help us reach our goal:

What does a day at Empowered GOALS Center actually look like?
Sometimes it looks like searching through a real book for words with the long e sound spelled “ea.” 📚
Sometimes it looks like engineering a marble run during a brain break.
Sometimes it sounds like steel drums. 🥁
Sometimes it involves magnets, iron filings, baby oil, water…and the question, “What happens if we try THIS?” 🧲🧪
And sometimes it involves pinecones from last week’s Friday Field Adventure, peanut butter, birdseed, and a very realistic discussion about whether we’re actually making bird feeders…or squirrel snacks. 🤣🐿️
This is personalized, mastery-based education at Empowered.
Academic growth matters. ❤️ And so do curiosity, creativity, movement, autonomy, experimentation, problem-solving, and JOY.
Our learners aren’t spending their entire day doing the same thing, at the same pace, in the same way. They have opportunities to master academic skills while also reading, building, investigating, creating, moving, asking questions, making choices, and discovering their strengths while conquering their challenges. ❤️

📚❤️ POV: When your Friday Field Adventure includes RESCUING BOOKS...
..and everyone leaves with something they're genuinely excited to READ. 🥹
Today's adventure took us to The Book Rescuers and my teacher heart was VERY happy. ❤️
📚 One learner proudly showed me his FIVE LEGO books and announced that they were only about $1 each. On the ride back to campus, I told him that buying five books like those brand new could easily have cost him over $100.
His reaction? 🤯😂
💵 Another learner got an unexpected real-life math lesson at checkout when he handed the cashier $5, spent less than $2, and then wanted to know why she was giving him so much money BACK. 😂❤️
And I loved how patiently she stopped and explained his change to him.
No worksheet.
No pretend store.
Just math happening naturally in the real world. ❤️
And then there was Mrs. Morrison... 🤣📚
Leaving me unsupervised in my favorite bookstore may be considered questionable decision...
BUT, there was a method behind my book-buying madness. 😉
I paid attention to the books that REALLY caught our learners' attention. When they ultimately decided to use their own book budgets on something else, a few of those abandoned favorites quietly found their way into Mrs. Morrison's stack instead. 😏
Because if a learner lights up over a book, I want that book waiting for them in our Empowered library. ❤️📚
And judging by how quickly everyone settled into reading once we returned to Conquer Lab...
I'd say those books found exactly the right home. 🥰

And we took FULL advantage of it.
Today’s adventure: Eagle Lake Park! 🌳
Swings.
Sunshine.
A FANTASTIC climbing tree.
🐢 Turtles.
🐟 Fish.
🦆 Ducks.
🐶 A furry friend named Bailey.
🥪 Lunch outside.
And then...
🌳 TREE CLIMBING: THE SEQUEL. 🤣
Because apparently once you discover THE TREE, you are not simply going to climb it once. 😂
🔊 SOUND ON for this one—because Mrs. Morrison would also like everyone to know that a trip to the Emergency Room was NOT included on today’s itinerary. 🤣🚑
But underneath all the fun was something I value deeply:
Time to MOVE.
Time to EXPLORE.
Time to OBSERVE.
Time to PLAY.
Time to CONNECT. ❤️
Learning doesn’t only happen at a desk.
Sometimes it happens while watching turtles in a pond.
Sometimes while testing what your body can do.
Sometimes over lunch beneath the trees.
And sometimes while climbing just high enough to make your teacher reconsider her life choices. 🤣🌳

What could possibly happen? 🤣
Welcome to another Empowered Field Adventure at the Largo Public Library Tinker Lab! ❤️
This time, the challenge was:
BUILD A BATTERY-POWERED BOAT. 🚤🔋
And I LOVE activities like this because there isn't much learning in simply being handed something that already works.
The learning happens in the...
🤔 How does this go together?
🔧 What connects where?
💡 Why isn't this working?
👀 What happens if I change THIS?
😂 Well... THAT wasn't the plan.
🔁 Okay. Try again.
Same challenge.
THREE very different approaches. 😉
And after all that building, adjusting and VERY independent problem-solving... 🤣
It was finally time for the moment of truth:
💦 WILL IT FLOAT?
🚤 WILL IT MOVE?!
Into the test tanks they went!
Some things worked exactly as expected.
Some things... did not. 😂
And THAT'S engineering.
Build it.
Test it.
Observe it.
Adjust it.
Try again. ❤️
Because the goal isn't always to get everything right the first time.
Sometimes the most important question is:

🦈🔬 When “HANDS-ON learning” gets VERY literal... 😂💙
Welcome to Part THREE of our Empowered Field Adventure at Clearwater Marine Aquarium ! 🌊🐬
And this time, our learners weren't just exploring the aquarium...
They were participating in CMA's Homeschool Hangout: MARINE BIOLOGY 101! 🥰
They listened.
They asked questions.
They investigated.
They observed.
And they got their hands on some seriously fascinating marine biology. 🦈🔬
THIS is why I love experiential learning. ❤️
Science isn't only something learners read about.
Sometimes they can TOUCH it.
Examine it.
Ask questions about it.
Make connections.
And experience it for themselves.
After class, we weren't quite finished exploring. 😉
There were more sharks. 🦈
A stop by the seals. 🦭
A little time to PLAY. 😂
And a visit to the Winter exhibit, where our learners got an up-close look at the animatronic dolphin used in the movie. 🐬🎬
From marine biology...
to animal adaptations...
to engineering...
to movie history...
There was always something else to discover. 💚

Welcome to Empowered Field Adventures at Clearwater Marine Aquarium — Part ONE! 🌊
Our learners started hands-on, exploring the touch habitat, asking questions, making observations, and getting up close with marine life.
Then we headed outside to learn about the dolphins... 🐬
And somewhere in the middle of all that exploring, listening, wondering, and discovering came my FAVORITE review of the day:
“This is my BEST DAY EVER!” 🥰
THAT. ❤️
Because some of the most meaningful learning doesn't happen sitting at a desk.
It happens when learners can TOUCH.
EXPLORE.
ASK.
OBSERVE.
CONNECT.
And experience the world they're learning about. 🌎💚
This wasn't even Friday. 😂

🐬😂 You came to see the dolphins... and one apparently chose YOUR group. ❤️
Welcome to Part TWO of our Empowered Field Adventure at Clearwater Marine Aquarium 🌊
Our learners were completely fascinated when one of the dolphins began swimming right alongside them as they moved along the viewing window.
Of course, they followed.
And apparently...
SO DID THE DOLPHIN. 😂🐬
Was the dolphin watching the boys?
Were the boys following the dolphin?
YES. 🤣❤️
Then curiosity took us somewhere a little darker... 👀
The boys wanted to explore, so off we went—discovering sharks, fish, and all kinds of interesting marine life tucked into the exhibits.
And THIS is one of my favorite things about Field Adventures. 💚
Sometimes I lead the way.
And sometimes THEY do.
They notice something.
They get curious.
They want a closer look.
They call me over to show me what THEY discovered.
That's learning driven by curiosity. ❤️
No worksheet required.
Just...
👀 LOOK!
🐟 “Mrs. Morrison, come see this!”
🐬 “It's following us!”
💡 Questions.
❤️ Wonder.
😂 And a whole lot of excitement.
