Thank you to all of our members and their families who came out for our Member Appreciation Day!

We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and sacrifice our members make to serve our community and the surrounding areas. We also want to recognize the families behind our members. Your support, patience, and willingness to share your loved ones with our department do not go unnoticed.

Events like today remind us that we're more than just a fire department—we're a family.

And a special thank you to all the members and family members who tried to dump me in the dump tank today... emphasis on tried! 😄 Better luck next year!

Thank you all for making today such a great event. We appreciate each and every one of you and everything you do for NW Volunteer Fire/Rescue. 🚒❤️

At approximately 2:30 a.m. this morning, Northwest Volunteer Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a two-story residential structure fire with flames showing from the second floor upon arrival.

Fire crews quickly initiated an aggressive fire attack and were able to bring the fire under control within approximately 45 minutes. Fortunately, there were no injuries to firefighters or occupants of the home.

The residence sustained significant damage to the attic area and a second-floor bedroom. Firefighters remained on scene until approximately 6:30 a.m. conducting overhaul operations and investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

Northwest Volunteer Fire & Rescue would like to thank our mutual aid and public safety partners for their assistance:
Leland Fire/Rescue Department
Winnabow Fire Department
Boiling Spring Lakes Fire Rescue
Brunswick County EMS
Brunswick County Sheriff's Office

Their support and teamwork were instrumental in bringing this incident to a successful conclusion.

As a reminder, working smoke alarms save lives. Please take a few moments today to test your smoke alarms and ensure they are functioning properly.

Today our firefighters were out conducting hydrant testing and maintenance throughout the district. This work is a critical part of keeping our community protected and ensuring our equipment and water supply systems are ready when an emergency happens.

Hydrant testing allows us to verify proper water flow, check for mechanical issues, identify needed repairs, and ensure hydrants are accessible and functioning correctly for fire response operations. Routine maintenance helps improve reliability and can make a significant difference during a structure fire or other emergency where every second counts.

You may notice firefighters operating hydrants, flushing water lines, or temporary discoloration in water during the process. This is normal and helps keep the water system operating efficiently.

We appreciate the support and patience of our community as we continue working to provide the highest level of fire protection possible

Today at 12:41pm we responded to a house fire in our district caused by an exhaust fan.

No one was injured, but damages spread between the laundry room and kitchen area. Our thoughts are with this family on these cold days!

Thank you to ADR, Winnabow, and Leland Fire Departments for responding to our mutual aid request.

As we celebrate , we want to remind everyone to use 9-1-1 responsibly. Here is a quick breakdown about what is and is not a 9-1-1 call regarding fireworks ⬇️

Call 9-1-1 if:
✅ You are reporting fireworks violations
✅ Someone is injured or in immediate danger
✅ You see a fire
✅ You notice smoke or flames you cannot identify or control
✅ You witness a crime in progress

Do NOT call 9-1-1 if:
❌ You want to know what fireworks are legal in your area
❌ You want to know what time local fireworks displays start
❌ Your neighbor has a storage container at their house filled with fireworks.

For non-emergency fireworks inquiries or complaints, please contact your local police or fire department or call the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office, NC's non-emergency phone number at 910-253-7490.

Let’s keep 9-1-1 lines clear for real emergencies.

Did you know that volunteers get hands on training opportunities?

Here, members work on skills needed for motor vehicle accidents with a donated car.

Volunteers are offered real-world experience and in-depth guidance to make sure they are as prepared as possible when they respond to emergency calls.

For many districts, Volunteering opportunities are dying out, but here at N.W.V.F.R.D. we are looking to grow our roster of members, and give those willing to share their time a fulfilling way to serve the community we love!

Yesterday was a very busy day for Station 33!
We started the day with cardiac arrest at 3:30am, then a structure fire we posted earlier at 8am.

Later we responded to a mutual aid call in Columbus County (pictured below).
N.W.V.F.R.D. Lieutenant Billy Price and Captain Justin McCoy were first to arrive on the scene and we're able to quickly knock down the fire.

While we are beyond proud of the hard work and quick actions of our members, we also know these circumstances are even harder near the Holidays. Our thoughts are with all affected by tragic events yesterday.

N.W.V F.R.D. is always looking for more volunteers. If interested, please contact Chief Charles Herzig at 910-655-2668.

Yesterday at approximately 8am we responded to a structure fire in our district.
We are happy to say that all occupants made it out of the home, though some had minor injuries.
The Red Cross is assisting the occupants and our thoughts are with them this Holiday season.
Thank you to Winnabow and Leland Fire Departments for responding with mutual aid.
