Lexington Philharmonic

A Celebration of Life has been organized to honor the life and legacy of Dr. George Zack, LexPhil Music Director Emeritus & Conductor Laureate of thirty-seven seasons.

The service will be held on Sunday, September 20, from 1:30-3:30PM in Haggin Auditorium at the Mitchell Fine Arts Center on the Transylvania University campus.

As we commemorate the Lexington Philharmonic's 65th season, we do so standing on the foundation that Dr. Zack helped build over nearly four decades of dedicated service. We are profoundly grateful for his contributions to this organization and to the cultural life of Lexington.

Our thoughts are with Dr. Zack's family, friends, and with all of the musicians, staff, board members, patrons, artists, and community members whose lives he touched.

Picnic with the Pops: Pops Goes Country next Saturday, August 8, will feature the Lexington Philharmonic and a cast of Nashville-based guest artists for an evening of symphonic renditions of beloved classic country songs. Join us on the Keene Meadow at Keeneland for this annual Lexington summer tradition.

JUST ANNOUNCED 📯 Celebrate the season! Enjoy a festive program of merry music as the LexPhil Holiday Brass Quintet tours Central Kentucky this December.

The tour kicks off in Lexington at Harper Hall for an intimate evening Downtown. Then, the Quintet travels to Versailles for a splendid night of music at The Galerie. Finally, the last stop is in Frankfort at First United Methodist Church Frankfort where the LexPhil Holiday Brass will join the FUMC Chancel Choir as part of their Friends of Music Concert Series.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Music Director Emeritus & Conductor Laureate, Dr. George Zack, has passed away.

Dr. Zack served as Music Director of the Lexington Philharmonic for 37 seasons, shaping the artistic life of our orchestra and our community in ways that continue to resonate today. Generations of musicians performed under his baton, countless audience members discovered the joy of live orchestral music through his leadership, and his vision helped establish the Lexington Philharmonic as the organization we know today.

For many in our community, George was more than a conductor. He was a mentor, colleague, teacher, and friend. His influence extends far beyond the years of his tenure and remains woven into the fabric of this orchestra.

As we celebrate the Lexington Philharmonic's 65th season, we do so standing on the foundation that George helped build over nearly four decades of dedicated service. We are profoundly grateful for his contributions to this organization and to the cultural life of Lexington.

LexPhil’s 65th Anniversary Kickoff tomorrow Saturday, July 11, commemorates over six decades of music, community, and legacy. Beginning at 6PM, we invite everyone to ArtsPlace to explore curated history displays, artifacts, archival recordings, and more covering the sixty-five year history of the organization.

Registration is requested for this all ages event with a ‘pay what you want’ admission that includes light refreshments and snacks. Whether a lifelong supporter or brand new, join LexPhil as we usher in the 2026–2027 Season, together.
