We visited Grassy Waters Preserve in West Palm Beach today for a walk in the wetlands ecosystem. The area functions as the primary municipal freshwater supply with free public access to explore the area. There is a wonderful nature center and multiple trails and boardwalks throughout. We got back to the car just before the rain started. It was nice to get out and explore today.

Acacia Reservation in Lyndhurst, Ohio was formerly the Acacia Country Club in 1921. In 2012 the property was acquired by the Cleveland Metroparks and the former country club was transformed back to wild meadows and forests. There are multiple trails, many are paved for easy access for all. We had never been there and decided to take a stroll after lunch today and we were pleasantly surprised.

We saw and heard many birds and the pollinators (especially the bees) 🐝 were all busy today. On the Woodpecker Way trail we saw several woodpeckers as well as many finches, jays and a hawk. We are wishing we would have brought our big cameras on this trip. We always thought golf courses were pretty but this one is my favorite; back to native plants and streams.

One of the bonuses of traveling back to see family is also seeing friends. We had the opportunity to have lunch and get outdoors with our friend Greg today. Getting to spend time and immerse in nature with an awesome friend is one of the best things in life!

North Chagrin Nature center is a favorite park with wonderful trails and a cool nature center. It is time for bird migration and we saw some nice species. Greg, a biologist and nature expert, taught us a few more plants and behaviors. Wish we had more time to spend in the parks here. They are truly one of the gems of the Cleveland area.

We’ve been to a lot of ice cream shops around the globe. And actually both Monica and Jason worked at ice cream parlors in their teens. And every time we come to Mitchell’s, we keep coming back to our thought “how can an Ohio ice cream shop have some of the best tasting ice cream in the world”.

The Cleveland Brownie Nut Sundae with Bing Cherry Chocolate Chunk and Black Raspberry Chocolate Chunk is our favorite. Topping the fabulous ice cream are salted pecans, fresh whipped cream (spooned on - no cans here) and a real Bordeaux cherry. (Monicas didn’t make it to the photo).

Worth a 1,000 mile trip!

We know many (ok, most) of you, visit our page to see our sailing adventures, and many of you like our hiking and birding photos. Right outside Mom and Dad's home is a treasure trove of birds and wild animals. So nice to get outside between the rainstorms.
