Dare we say it but BACK to SCHOOL is coming and with that comes schedule changes yet again. ‼️Especially‼️ if you added a new dog to the family over the summer. That new pet is going to be in for a shock once kids go to school and maybe the house becomes less busy and less time for the dog. Start getting them adjusted now and start training them on how to self sooth and entertain during the work/school hours
Training Tips Tuesday: Getting ready for back to school Marcy Kraner and Annie from That Place For Pets are in with tips for your pet to adjust as the kids head back to school!

4th of July training tip 🇺🇸💭
This is Buddy's 1st year dealing with fireworks. His owner, Sara, has been working to expose him to all kinds of noises, smells, dogs, commands, etc since he was 8wks old. As you can see in the video he is a little unsure but due to the trust he has with Sara, her staying calm, not babying him, he starts to just let it go and it is just something going on but no big deal. Sara turns it into a good experience by having treats and sticking to praise.
Play this video for your dog. Keep it more on a quieter side. If they react, how do you react? What is your 1st responses? Try and avoid the "it's okay" "your fine" baby talk and snuggles. That actually makes them feel like there is a reason to be nervous. Instead let it play. You can adjust the noise level but try to distract them with a toy, with a treat, with you just staying calm and basically ignoring it like there is nothing happening.
If you have an older dog that has already developed this fear, it most likely will be something you cannot break but it is still always best to not feed their fear by babying them. Help them by allowing them the chance to go hide some place quieter. And make sure they are safe in a house where they cannot run away.
Younger pups though - expose your pups. Help them learn this big world is not all that scary and help them grow into a confident canine.
We cover all kinds of developments, skills, tips, and more in our group classes. Come join us! New session starts week of Aug 3rd for all ages and levels 🎆
