Wellness starts with a full stomach.

A warm meal can do more than fill a plate. It can bring comfort, strength, dignity, and hope during difficult seasons.

We serve three meals a day, Monday through Friday, because nourishment matters for both physical and mental wellness.

Every meal shared around our tables is a reminder that no one should have to struggle alone.

At Our Daily Bread, we know small things can brighten a child’s day.

That’s why we keep special items such as juice boxes set aside just for kids in our Kids Corner.

Simple moments of care can help children feel welcomed, safe, and valued.

Some days I know what verse I’ll use for the devotion when I come in. Some days I have no idea until I stare blankly at the computer screen for several minutes. Some days I have the subject, but have to find the verse when I come in. Today was one of the latter. I knew I wanted to talk about working for God. I chose 1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. After I finished the devotion and asked for the blessing, I was stopped by a man on my way back to the office. He was probably in his 40s and immediately I noticed he was very emotional. He asked if I would pray for him. I asked what was going on, he sighed and said a lot of stuff. He has a 5-year-old son. That was all he was able to get out before the tears started coming again. I put my hand on his shoulder and we prayed. I didn’t know his name, but God does, I didn’t know what he needed, but God does. Sometimes we just have to ask Him. I will keep this man in my prayers because he also reminded me why I keep coming in every morning, your labor in the Lord is not in vain. God bless.

Summer is our slowest donation season, but our patrons still count on us.

Every day, we serve an average of 143 meals to neighbors in our community, and the need continues through the summer months.

Right now, some of our most-needed items include:

▪️ Juice boxes for kids
▪️ Hygiene products
▪️ Clean underwear and socks
▪️ Shelf-stable food items

This Fourth of July, we’re grateful for our community.

For years, holidays at Our Daily Bread have been about more than food. They’ve been about neighbors coming together.

From serving from the old hot dog cart on the Fourth of July to sharing meals around the table, those simple moments of connection still matter.

That spirit of community is at the heart of everything we do.

We lost one of our own Monday. Miss Kate was 98. She would volunteer twice a week from Ottawa. She would drive to her friend Al, and he would drive into Lima. You would see her in the dining room taking trays and drinks to people or wiping down tables as the people left. She was a tiny woman, but when she hugged you, it was like a boa constrictor. She hadn't volunteered for about 4 years but two years ago her daughter took her to the doctor for a regular checkup. After the exam the doctor asked if she had any concerns. Miss Kate looked up to him and said, "Yes, I'm concerned i wont make it back to Our Daily Bread before I die." To many that come here to eat ODB means survival, to the volunteers like Miss Kate, it means love. God bless.
