🌱 A little hosta seed shipping lesson! 🌱
Don’t be alarmed if the papery seed coat on your hosta seeds arrives cracked, broken, or even separated during shipping. That delicate outer covering can be surprisingly fragile, and a little damage to it does NOT mean the actual seed is damaged.
The important part is the little black seed at the narrow end. đź’š
When planting, be sure you’re planting the ACTUAL SEED—not just a piece of the papery seed coat.
Save this graphic for your next hosta seed-starting project! 🌿

🌱 And here’s where it all comes together!
These hosta divisions are getting planted and ready to grow. đź’š
That’s the whole process from beginning to end — and I love seeing what’s hiding underneath a mature hosta clump!

🌱 Which part of a hosta “seed” is actually the seed?
If you’ve ever looked at a hosta seed and wondered about that little black k**b at the skinny end of the helicopter-like wing, here’s your answer! 🌿
The papery wing helps the seed catch the wind and travel, while that little black portion is the actual seed.
Once you know what you’re looking for, it’s much easier to spot good, mature hosta seed when you’re sorting your harvest!
A little homesteading reminder for today 🌿
You don’t have to tackle the whole homestead at once. Pick one small thing that needs your attention and do that first.
Gather the eggs. Water a few plants. Pull a handful of weeds. Check the garden for pests. Start a few seeds. Tidy one little corner.
Small jobs add up, and before you know it, you’ve made a difference. ❤️
