In partnership with Russell Westbrook Russell Westbrook Why Not? Foundation, we invited our young moms for a day of wellness.
The moms learned wellness practices that were taught with the understanding that, yes, our backgrounds may be loud, and there may be a lot going on, but they still have to take care of themselves.
The moms even got to try their hands out with the meditation bowls.
Itβs easy to forget that moms need a minute to regroup too.
Special thanks to:
πΈ for capturing the day

Itβs our birthday!!!
We turned 9 years old today. Can you believe it?
From starting with 12 girls to now hosting 4 cohorts with an active waiting list.
We appreciate everyone whoβs rocked with us all these years and supported our youth.

The fall 2026 cohort is in motion and we hit the ground running! π©πΏβπ³π§π½βπ³
Last weekend we met with Chef βπππ πππππ πΎππ π£ππ βπππππππ and created a delicious meal.
The middle school girls were on the Caesar salad and the high school girls were on elote and grilled chicken.
Let me tell you it smelled good at the clubhouse.
As always, we believe in hands-on learning and we canβt wait to see what the girls get up to this season.

βοΈπ Compton G.IRLS Club rounded out our summer break with a special trip to Catalina Island, hosted by Nature For All and
Our youth braved an early wake-up call, ocean sickness, and seaweed to explore all the things the island off the coast of California had to offer.
We learned about the bison that inhabit the island, swam in the very warm, gentle waves of the beach, and even explored the local airport.
Did you know that if you live on the island and want to import a new car, you have to be on a waiting list that is 25 years long!
We love to explore new places and we are so grateful to our host!

Calling all future (and current) Youth Leaders!
We are creating our first Youth Advisory Board! Be a part of G.IRL history and become a Founding Board Member.
This opportunity is perfect for high school students (and 8th graders) trying to get their resumes and college apps together.
Trust me, being a FOUNDING member of a Board is a BIG deal!
We will work with CSUDH Women's Studies to create a working board.
Our first service project will be working with Moonwater Farm to create a garden for our clubhouse.
There is NO experience needed, just a commitment to changing and informing what G.IRLS from the Hood have access to.
Meetings will be:
Wednesdays at 4:30 pm in the Compton area, starting September 9th
Open to ALL youth, of any gender, grades 8th-12th
We will provide dinner and transportation via Uber free with restrictions.
Check out the link in the bio, or on our website under βUpdates for more info.

Our βIn My Diaper Bagβ cohort wrapped up with a community baby shower hosted by Davida Eilliams and her volunteers from For the Kids LA .
This event was a moment to celebrate our young mothers and their babies.
Our moms were treated to manicures, waist beads, and a special shopping experience.
Of course we had baby shower games, good food, and of course, the most important great company and community.
Special thanks to:
MLKCH for partnering with us to use their beautiful community space

To close out our summer cohort, we visited The Huntington .
We strolled the gardens, this time we focused on the Chinese Gardens which are BEAUTIFUL!
We checked out some art of course.
and Allie Brown led us in a cynotype workshop where we sun dyed items we found on our walk through the gardens. (Only things not attached to the plants of course).
There is always something going on at G.IRL! Hopefully youll join us one day.

Our 5th Annual Cyber G.IRL digital magazine is complete!
Over the course of 8 weeks, our youth coded, designed graphics, and wrote the articles to create a website on a topic of their choice. That topic wasβ¦ Vintage 90βs and Y2K culture.
*ππ΅βπ«* I know millennials, I know haha! Vintage.
The girls in this cohort had no prior knowledge of coding or graphic design, and by the end of this cohort, they created something special.
We even had the chance to debut our final project at the Apple store in Manhattan Beach!
You can read more about it on our website, and the link is in our bio.
Special thanks to our teachers:

π ππ¦ We packed our mommies and babies up for a trip to Long Beach Aquarium!
As you may know with ALL of our programs, we believe in hands on learning and experiencing first hand what we teach.
Our young mommies connected with their babies by discovering marine life together. Not only was the first time for the babies but some of our moms as well.
Field trips like these also teach moms:
- How to stick to a schedule
- How to work with your babies temperaments on the fly
- Navigating transportation and strollers
- And of course how to build friendships and community with other moms.
We provide organic learning that is typically reserved for moms who may not reflect our shared experiences. Consider donating to support our programs today ππ¬
