A Rare Disease Institute 🦋
Restoring hope. Advancing discovery. Empowering communities.

Orphan diseases include rare diseases that affect fewer than 200,000 people in the United States (such as cystic fibrosis) and more common conditions that have been neglected by the pharmaceutical industry (including food allergy). Because the pharmaceutical industry lacks the financial incentive to research, develop, and deliver treatment options for orphan conditions, patients have largely been ignored by the traditional medical community. TPIRC (the Translational Pulmonary and Immunology Research Center) provides a medical home that advances advocacy, research, and clinical care and gives people with orphan conditions hope for a better life.

Thank you. Because of this community, real children and real families are staying on the path to treatment through the Access for All Grant.

YOU showed up for them.

Long Beach Gives

09/24/2026

Today is the day! Long Beach Gives Day is officially here, and every dollar donated to TPIRC’s page goes directly to the Access for All Grant.

Over the years, this grant has helped hundreds of patients reach real remission, turning off the disease altogether, not just managing it.

But there are still families held back by gaps in funding, patients who are so close to the finish line but need support to get there.

Your gift today closes that gap. Every little bit helps us reach the patients still waiting.

Years ago, Dr. Randhawa saw something that didn’t sit right with him: patients who wanted to get better, and the only thing standing in their way was cost. So he decided to do something about it, and started the Access for All Grant.

Since then, this grant has become a lifeline for hundreds of families, helping children get the treatment they need, without financial strain standing in the way. But Dr. Randhawa’s hope has always been bigger than that: not just hundreds of families, but thousands.

Tomorrow is Long Beach Gives Day, and every gift to the Access for All Grant brings another family closer to the care they deserve.

Don’t wait until tomorrow. Tap the link in our bio and give today.

Every parent remembers where their story with us began. For so many families, it started at our Willow clinic, right here in Long Beach.

That first visit is often the first real answer a family has gotten, after years of fear, missed diagnoses, or not knowing where else to turn.

The Access for All Grant exists to make sure that beginning is never out of reach. It steps in when the cost of care threatens to get in the way, so no family has to put treatment on hold.

Tomorrow, early giving opens for Long Beach Gives. Your gift helps another family reach their own beginning.

Set your alarm for September 17th. Tap the link in our bio to give early.

Maya was four months old when her family found out she had food allergies. Dairy, eggs, wheat, nuts, avocado, seeds.

In March 2018, they drove to their first appointment. She was cleared for food freedom before high school. Years later, in her words, she’s still living her best life.
Her family documented the whole thing themselves.

Traditional medicine is built to treat the patient in front of us. Philanthropy allows us to ask a bigger question: how do we make treatment better for the next 10,000 patients? The next 100,000?

Every successful protocol begins with data. Donor funding directly supports collecting it, analyzing it, and testing the biology behind why it works, the work standard reimbursement won’t cover.

That is what philanthropy changes: the speed at which discovery becomes something that can help a patient.

Ready to back the research behind it? Tap the link in our bio to support TPIRC ahead of September 24.

No matter how long you’ve known us, every story we tell traces back to one place: our Willow clinic in Long Beach.

It’s where families land after they’ve been told “no” everywhere else. After ER visits, elimination diets, an EpiPen and more fear than answers. Every one of those stories starts the same way: a single diagnostic test, and the first real answer a family has gotten.

On September 24, Long Beach Gives comes together for one day to support Willow and the families who walk through its doors. Early giving opens September 17, a head start before the big day.

Your gift directly fuels the Access for All grant, covering a diagnostic test or treatment initiation for a child at Willow. That’s the first step in every family’s journey, and your gift gets one closer to it.

Save the date. More from us as September 24 gets closer.

We asked people online: “What do you wish your doctor told you about allergies?” Dr. Inderpal Randhawa is here to answer.

A lot of people spend years managing environmental allergy symptoms without ever knowing there’s more than one long-term path to real relief. Here’s the breakdown:

💉 Allergy shots — the actual environmental allergen, injected to retrain your immune system not to react. Typically 5 to 10 years of treatment, depending on the case.

💧 SLIT (sublingual immunotherapy) — environmental allergy drops taken at home, no needles. Most people feel improvement in about 6 months, with treatment generally done in around 5 years.

At TPIRC and LAHA, Dr. Randhawa and the team use big data to understand exactly how these therapies work for each patient, not just what helps them improve faster, but how long they’ll actually need treatment. Because cost matters, and you shouldn’t be on a therapy for a decade without understanding why.

Most food allergy lab tests look at an allergen as a whole and simply tell you to stay away from it. At Aperture ImmunoDiagnostics, we go deeper.

Take peanuts: within that single allergen are 14 distinct proteins. Out of the ~80-90 tests available industry-wide, we run about 66% of them, most other labs won’t even carry.

But testing more isn’t enough on its own. A lab can run a single test and hope a physician catches any error, or run multiple tests for the same question and use AI/ML to validate the accuracy. We choose the latter, every time.

That precision is what powers the Tolerance Induction Program: by identifying exactly which proteins you react to and how they relate to each other, we build real tolerance, so your body already has a defense before you ever take a bite.

“I really care about what we do here... you really see the patient, the person on the other side, as opposed to just a test tube.”

That’s the difference between managing a diagnosis and guiding someone to food freedom.
