In Summer 2007, California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) was one of the first campuses in the California State University system to offer an independent doctoral program, Ed. This program represents a major achievement and advancement in the history of higher education in California and addresses the demand for highly qualified educational leaders for P-12 school districts and community colleges. Representatives from P-12 school districts and community colleges work collaboratively with CSULB faculty and administrators to design, implement, and evaluate this program. Our Vision
To build a dynamic, rigorous, and inclusive doctoral program that prepares leaders to make remarkable differences in the educational lives of others. Educational Leadership in the Community College/Higher Education
Students are admitted each summer term
Classes begin in June
Cohort model
Full-time study is required
7-9 units each semester
Summer study is required
60 unit program designed to be completed in 3 years
Intended for working professionals
classes are scheduled in the evenings and on weekends
coursework designed to accommodate and benefit from the full-time employment of program participants

Congratulations to our very own Quay Dorsey for being selected as a Keynote speaker for the 2026 4CPD Annual Conference!
Quay will deliver his keynote address, “Holding the Moment Together: Professional Development, AI and Equity Minded Leadership in a Changing Higher Education Landscape.” We are proud to celebrate him as an outstanding member of our EdD family and a representative of Cohort 19.
The 4CPD Conference is an annual event that strives to elevate practices and inspire actions by equipping their attendees with tools and insights on emerging trends that strengthen professional learning for campuses across the nation.
Our EDLD community continues to show up and stand out at conferences nationwide, and we could not be prouder of our students! Congratulations, Quay! Go Beach!

We are proud to announce that our very own Iman Hicks has been selected as the 2026 recipient of both the NAACP Long Beach Chapter Award and the CSU Foundation Scholarship Award!
Iman continues to be an outstanding EdD student, representing Cohort 19, and we are so lucky to be a part of her educational journey. Congrats once again!

The NAME Conference is an annual event that invites educators, scholars, and more to submit proposals that help improve communities and neighborhoods to foster universal belonging, equity, and social justice.

Heads up EDLD students and LGBTQIA+ community! The Q***r and Trans Educators (QTE) group is a safe space for all LGBTQIA+ members in the College of Education. They offer networking opportunities, community, and support for all future educators at CSULB.
Anyone who enlists in the QTE listers will receive information on upcoming events and calendar invites, with most events being FREE! Take this opportunity to relax, and have fun with other LGBTQIA+ CED members! 🌈✨
