East Texas Real Estate Update | Sept. 7–11 🏡

Mortgage rates moved higher again last week, with Freddie Mac’s national 30-year average reaching 6.71%. Then Friday’s jobs report came in stronger than expected—162,000 new jobs with unemployment holding at 4.1%—and Treasury yields moved higher.

Now the focus turns to inflation. PPI comes Thursday and CPI Friday, just days before the Federal Reserve’s September 15–16 meeting. We also have 3-year, 10-year and 30-year Treasury auctions this week, so there are several opportunities for bond-market volatility.

Locally, Tyler continues to outperform the statewide sales trend. Q2 Tyler-area home sales were up 15.6% from last year, compared with 4.5% statewide. Buyers also have more inventory to choose from, and the latest Zillow data show many East Texas transactions closing below asking price.
