As the fall semester kicks off in full swing, Texas Tech’s IT Department lists its new security updates to help ensure safety and increase the speed of Red Raiders’ internet activity.

During the beginning of a school year, IT sees an increase in scam related emails targeting students, according to previous DT reporting. However, in the past year, senior managing director for IT customer experience at Tech, Scott Hall said the department has implemented email quarantining that isolates scam emails and password protections to ward off these threats.

“We have started quarantining messages that are believed to be phishing attempts,” Hall said. “You can release it if you think it’s legitimate or delete it and stay safe. We’re hoping that’ll help a lot with getting students’ accounts more secure.”

According to an email from IT, quarantining emails utilizes domain-based message reporting and conformance technology to isolate emails not from a TTU email account. DMARC uses an algorithm that checks word count, content and user emails to determine the likelihood of a scam.

At Government Innovation Texas 2026 in Austin, Dr. Lin Zhou, Texas Tech University’s Vice President for Information Technology, CIO, and Executive Director of AI & Quantum Computing, joined fellow technology and public service leaders for the panel discussion “One Government Experience: Breaking Down Silos to Serve Texans Better.”

The conversation explored how data governance, data quality, AI-enabled insights, and shared performance monitoring can help organizations connect programs and teams, identify service gaps, and strengthen the delivery of public services.

We're proud to see TTU IT represented in conversations shaping the future of technology, data, and AI in public service. Thanks to Public Sector Network for hosting this event!

Having trouble connecting your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to TTU Wi-Fi? 🛜
iCloud Private Relay is a great privacy feature, but it can sometimes interfere with connectivity to TTU networks.
Good news! You only need to turn it off while connected to a TTU network. You can keep Private Relay enabled when using other networks, like Wi-Fi at a coffee shop or hotel.
