I believe pest control should be built on trust, transparency, and good service—not pressure tactics.

Here are 15 things about door-to-door sales that bother me:

1. Fake neighbor stories�Claiming or implying that nearby homeowners signed up, switched companies, or are having pest problems when the salesperson doesn’t actually know that to be true.
2. Fake “we’re already in the neighborhood” discounts�Making it sound like you’re getting a special price because a technician is nearby or because there are only a couple of openings left.
3. Manufactured urgency�Making an offer “today only” so you don’t have time to research the company, compare prices, read reviews, or think about the decision.
4. Inflated regular prices�Starting with an unusually high price and then presenting the actual selling price as a massive discount.
5. Charging based on what they think you’ll pay�Offering different prices for similar homes depending on how much the salesperson believes they can get from the homeowner.
6. Penalizing people who trust them�The person who immediately agrees may pay more, while the person who keeps saying no is suddenly offered bigger and bigger discounts.
7. Making the discount feel like a personal favor�The salesperson acts like they are personally “helping you out,” creating pressure to return the favor by signing up.
8. Downplaying the contract�Talking extensively about the discount while barely mentioning the contract length, cancellation requirements, automatic renewal, or other obligations.
9. Using the “discount” against you later�If you cancel early, you may be required to repay a promotional discount based on a supposed regular price you may never have realistically been expected to pay.
