Truckers traveling through Portland should plan ahead: I-5 southbound in the Rose Quarter is scheduled for a five-week closure for critical repairs and safety improvements.

The closure could cause 2–3× longer travel times, with congestion potentially stretching across the Columbia River into Washington and onto local streets.

🚛 About 11,700 trucks use this stretch daily, carrying more than $100 million in freight.

Detours: Southbound traffic will be routed to I-405, while regional traffic will be directed to I-205. I-5 northbound will remain open.

The elevated section has not received major repairs since 1985. ODOT says the full closure is expected to save up to $9 million compared with alternative construction methods.
