This morning I’ve been harvesting alongside the butterflies. 🦋💐
After a slower week, it’s been a nice change of pace to move through the field, cut what’s ready, and enjoy a quieter morning before the weekend begins.
Tomorrow (Saturday, October3rd), you can find our flowers in two places:
💐Smoke Stack Farmer’s Market
Saturday | 9 AM to 1 PM
📍Payne Mill Antique Mall
342 Rose Ave, Macon
🏠 The Farmstand
Saturday | 11 AM to 7 PM
📍1291 Allen Rd N, Macon
The Farmstand will be stocked with grab-and-go bouquets, and the self-serve You Pick will be open too if you’d rather gather your own. ✂️
Sunday is looking like a rainy day, so if you’ve been wanting to come out to the farm, I’d make Saturday your day.
We’re getting close to the end of this flower season, and I think that makes these last few weekends feel just a little sweeter.
Gather a little beauty while it’s still here.

I’m feeling a little midweek + new month reset today.
The cooler is getting cleaned out. Buckets are getting washed. Things are getting put back where they belong after a busy few weeks.
That’s kind of what October looks like around here. We’re still harvesting from one area while cleaning out another and making plans for what needs to be planted next.
I’m trying not to get too far ahead of myself, though.
The days are getting a little shorter, the mornings are getting a little cooler, and there’s still plenty happening in the field right now.
So today feels like a good day to reset a few things, look around, and soak it all in.
I’ve been sharing a little more of the planning process in my newsletter lately, including some peeks at what’s coming next. If you’d like to follow along behind the scenes and see what I’m thinking about before it all takes shape, you can sign up through our website.

After a full day of markets yesterday, today feels a little quieter and honestly, that’s one of the things I love about Sundays.
The Farmstand is open and self-serve, with fresh bouquets ready to grab and go. And if you’d rather spend a little time outside, You Pick is self-serve today too. ✂️💐
No event. No schedule to keep. Just come by when it works for you, wander through the flowers if you’d like, and take a little bit of the field home for the week ahead.
Farmstand + Self-Serve You Pick

Buckets are filling up and I am slowly working my way through the list I made earlier this week.

This weekend’s flowers start today.
Before I ever start harvesting, I walk the field and make a plan. This is a big weekend, and it’s been on my mind all week.
I’m hoping to make around 40 bouquets for Dickey Farms Fall Festival and the Smoke Stack Farmer’s Market which means gathering somewhere around 600+ stems from the field.
I start with a recipe in mind: eucalyptus, zinnias, celosia, gomphrena, marigolds, verbena, basil, grasses… and then I walk the rows to see what the field actually has to give me.
Do I have enough of everything?
What’s looking especially good?
What needs another few days?
What can I shift around or substitute?
Today I’ll start gathering some of the ingredients. Tomorrow I’ll finish the harvest, then comes sorting, conditioning and finally putting all of those stems together.
And when you take one of those bouquets home this weekend, you’ll know the flowers inside were tended, thoughtfully chosen and gathered from the field less than 48 hours before they made their way to you.
I think that’s one of the most special things about buying flowers grown close to home.
And this weekend, there will be a few different ways to find them.

Greenery has always been a big part of our grow plan.
Many of them take several years to really establish before they start producing long, lush stems. After planting more each year and waiting, we’re finally getting to the point where I can walk out and gather big bucketfuls.
We now grow at least four varieties of eucalyptus, along with mountain mint, pittosporum, and this year I added raspberry foliage, spirea, and viburnum to the mix.
And I’m still planting more. 🌱
It’s one of the slower parts of building the farm, but days like today make all that waiting feel pretty worthwhile.
