Next time you're headed down Corry Street, pop into the red and silver telephone booth and listen to the past

The Nick Weerts Memorial Phone Booth at 209 Corry St. is part interactive art installation and part memorial of a lost son, brother and friend. Every time a visitor picks up the phone, a portion of over 10 hours of material is played into their ear, from conversations with Nick's friends and family to music and full length films. And the project hopes to expand that library with community submissions along the way.

We are beyond thrilled and deeply honored to share that our resident literacy champion, Lisa Hepburn, is one of this year's recipient of the annual Hejtmanek Literacy Award by WI Reads 📚

This highly competitive statewide honor is awarded to two exceptional educators each year to recognize extraordinary leadership in evidence-based reading instruction. Lisa’s brilliant advocacy for the Science of Reading has been a cornerstone of our community, most notably through her vital role in helping to build and shape our *START Literacy Initiative.

Lisa was integral to START's very formation, and her continued guidance today ensures our program delivers the highest quality reading support to our learners. As a treasured mentor and visionary whose work directly fuels a more literate and equitable society, Lisa’s achievement brings immense pride to Goodman Community Center! What's your dream ice cream flavor? 🍨

Chocolate Shoppe 🐄 is once again collaborating with TEENworks for their Create a Flavor contest! Later this year, TEENworks youth will help the iconic Madison ice cream company make the winning flavor a reality, helping them gain product development experience and first hand knowledge of the ice cream making process. A portion of the final flavors sales will also be donated to TEENworks.

You can submit a flavor online at chocolateshoppeicecream.com or at our center's Ironworks front desk now through Monday (9/28).

Community voting on the top contenders will take place Oct. 5–18. The winner will be announced on Friday Oct. 23 and will hit stores and shelves next summer.

This year, Blue House teachers dedicated their 8-week summer program the earth's four elements: earth 🌍, fire 🔥, water💧and wind 🍃.

So many quintessential summer activities, from swim lessons and walks outside to crafts and kite flying interact with at least one of these elements. And each day the Blue House friends intentionally made those connections through questions from their teachers, during story-time and through play. Teachers sometimes even asked the class to shout out loud which element they were interacting with during non-themed activities or outside time.

The pantry celebrated National Voter Registration Day this week by registering customers while they waited to shop🗳️

The team set up a table complete with paperwork and a volunteer to answer questions, helping folks through the registration process. Offering voter registration to customers helps make sure as many community members can have their voice heard in elections as possible!
