The District 11 Book Club, a free and informal group hosted by Madison Alder Bill Tishler, will meet on Wednesday, June 24 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Sequoya Library. The group regularly brings neighbors together to discuss books and ideas related to urban planning, local history, and social issues.

This month's discussion will focus on Strong Towns: A Bottom Up Revolution to Rebuild American Prosperity(external) by Charles L. Marohn Jr. The event will feature a casual panel conversation with area residents Josh Olson and Matt Wise, along with plenty of time for questions and community discussion. No advance reading of the book is required to attend, but you can learn more about the topic at www.strongtowns.org

Volunteers are needed to help in the Odana Hills Prairie!

Canada Goldenrod and tall grasses are spreading in our pollinator garden at the Odana Hills golf course. To reduce the spread of these invasive plants and increase species diversity we will plant over 200 plugs of the hemiparasitic and native Wood Betony that were donated by the Midvale Heights Neighborhood Association.

Can you help with the planting this Friday evening (6/12) after 6pm? If you can bring a weeding knife or a narrow spade to dig a hole in the dry ground that would be greatly appreciated.

We also need volunteers to help with the watering of the plants. Depending on the rain situation we will have to water the plants once or twice a week during the first 3 or 4 weeks after planting. If you have a watering can or two we can get water from the nearby washing station of the mowers from the golf course.

Last but not least, if you have some time to pull Canada Goldenrod in some areas that would help with the spread as well.

If you have a kindergartener starting at Midvale this fall, the Midvale-Lincoln School Community Organization (SCO -- what we call our schools' PTO/PTA) is planning to organize playdates for incoming kindergarteners this summer. We are invited to join our neighbors in Westmorland for the kickoff of their Summer Nights series this Saturday, May 30. Looks like a great time!

Back in 2015 the Midvale Heights Community Association presented Michael Pressman with a “Commissioner” T-shirt to thank him for his volunteer efforts with the neighborhood’s youth baseball league.

This year the City of Madison, Madison Parks, and MHCA will present a special honor to Pressman as he begins his 30th season with the league.

A civic recognition award will be delivered to Pressman and a rare tribute will be announced on Tuesday, June 2 at 5:00pm at Oak Park Heights Park (641 Hilltop Drive) the first day of the 2026 season for Midvale Heights Community Association youth baseball league.

District 11 Alder Bill Tishler, Madison Parks Superintendent Eric Knepp and MHCA President Joy Cardin will present the award.

The community is invited and individuals and families who have participated in Midvale Heights youth baseball are encouraged to attend.

A representative of Madison Parks will attend the Midvale Heights Community Association’s monthly meeting on May 26 at @6:00pm in Conference Room A at Sequoya Library to update board members and interested residents and answer your questions regarding the Odana Hills Redesign Project. The master plan is expected to be adopted in June.
