❤️ A Message to Our Monrovia Family ❤️

This week, our June report showed something we haven’t experienced in over a decade a missed call.

There is no way to sugarcoat it. It hurts.

Not because of a number on a report, but because every call represents a neighbor, a friend, or a loved one who needs our help during possibly their worst moment of their life.

At the same time, one moment should never overshadow a lifetime of service.

For 11 consecutive years, Monrovia Volunteer Fire & Rescue answered every first-due emergency call. That’s thousands of responses made possible by ordinary people doing extraordinary things leaving family dinners, getting out of bed at 2:00 a.m., stepping away from work, missing birthdays, holidays, and countless moments with those they love to answer someone else’s call for help.

That kind of commitment cannot be measured by a single missed call.

For 61 years, this department has been built by men and women who believe in serving something bigger than themselves. Since 1965, generations of volunteers have sacrificed their time, their comfort, and often their own family moments to protect the Monrovia community.

That legacy is something we will always be proud of.

To our community, thank you. Thank you for trusting us, supporting us, encouraging us, and believing in us. Your support is what keeps volunteer fire departments like ours alive, and it is a responsibility we never take for granted.

🚒Community, Connection, and Fire Safety! 🚒

Our Community Risk Reduction Team had a wonderful time attending the Madison County 310 Board Summer Event!

It was a great opportunity to visit with the staff and clients while sharing important fire safety information. We discussed topics such as practicing home fire drills, establishing a designated family meeting place, knowing when and how to call 911, and the proper use of fire extinguishers. These simple conversations can make a life-saving difference during an emergency.

Thank you to Madison County 310 Board for inviting Monrovia Volunteer Fire & Rescue to be a part of this fantastic event. We truly appreciate the opportunity to engage with our community, promote fire prevention, and help make Monrovia a safer place for everyone.

🚒 Training Through Preparation 🚒

A big thank you to Toney Volunteer Fire & Rescue for the invitation to tour Madison County Schools new Sparkman Intermediate School last night. Opportunities like this allow first responders to become familiar with the buildings we protect before an emergency ever occurs.

During the tour, crews learned the school’s layout and identified critical information such as access points, Fire Department Connections (FDCs), utility and emergency shutoffs, and other key features that will help ensure a faster, safer, and more efficient response should a fire emergency ever occur at the school.

Following the walkthrough, members participated in an aerial operations training exercise. Monrovia’s Tower 512 and Harvest Volunteer Fire Department Truck 123 were positioned around the school to evaluate apparatus placement, compare the reach capabilities of two different styles of aerial apparatus, and determine the most effective operating positions for various rescue and fire suppression scenarios.

Training alongside our neighboring departments strengthens our response capabilities throughout the districts and helps ensure we’re prepared to serve our community when it matters most.

🇺🇸🎆 Fourth of July Firework Safety Reminder 🎆🇺🇸

As we approach Independence Day, we also celebrate a historic milestone The 250th Anniversary of our Nation’s Independence 🇺🇸🎉. This is a time for family, community, and celebration across the country.

Locally, we are in a better position this year compared to recent years when it comes to brush fire danger. 🌧️🔥 The improved moisture levels and green grass this summer has helped reduce overall wildfire risk in our area.

However, even with improved conditions, fireworks still require caution ⚠️🎇. A single spark in the wrong place can still cause a fire or injury.

Please keep these safety reminders in mind:

• 🎆 Only use legal fireworks in approved areas
• 🌿 Keep fireworks away from dry grass, trees, and structures
• 💧 Have a water hose or bucket close by at all times
• 🚫 Never relight malfunctioning fireworks; wait and soak them in water
• 👨‍👩‍👧 Supervise children at all times
• 🍻 Never use fireworks while under the influence of alcohol
• 🧯 Soak all used fireworks in a bucket or container of water for several hours before disposal. Do not place used fireworks directly into a trash can or recycling bin next to your home, as they can reignite and cause a fire. Dispose of them only after they have been thoroughly soaked and are completely cool.

☀️ HEAT ADVISORY ☀️

A Heat Advisory has been issued for Northern Alabama and remains in effect until Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 7:00 PM.

🌡️ Heat index values are expected to reach 105–110°F, creating dangerous conditions that can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses.

Protect yourself and your family by following these heat safety tips:
💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty.
🏠 Stay indoors in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible.
🌳 If you must be outside, take frequent breaks in the shade.
👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing.
🚫 Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day (10 AM – 6 PM).
👶👵 Check on children, older adults, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to the heat.
🚗 Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle, even for a few minutes.

Know the signs of heat illness:
⚠️ Heavy sweating, dizziness, weakness, nausea, muscle cramps, or headache may be signs of heat exhaustion. Move to a cool place, drink water, and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen.
🚑 If someone becomes confused, loses consciousness, or has a body temperature above 103°F, call 911 immediately.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay safe!

Avoid Clutts Road north of Capshaw Road. Road is closed due to telephone lines and tractor trailer blocking the roadway.

🚨 STRUCTURE FIRE 🚨

At 04:00 this morning 6/13/2026 Madison County Fire Communications dispatched Monrovia Volunteer Fire Rescue and Madison Fire and Rescue to a Structure Fire in the 200 Block of Alder Branch Court

First units from Monrovia reported flames showing from a 2 story structure. Monrovia and Madison crews made an aggressive interior attack to extinguish the fire. Searches all came up negative. Additional overhaul was done to the exterior of the structure to ensure all fire had been extinguished. No injuries to report from the fire.

During the month of May, Monrovia Volunteer Fire Rescue responded to 225 emergency calls throughout our community with 0 missed calls.

These responses included fires, medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, service calls, and other incidents where our volunteers stand ready to answer the call for help day or night.

Year-to-date, our department has responded to 1,062 calls with 0 missed calls, a testament to the dedication, commitment, and teamwork of our volunteer firefighters and support personnel.

Every call represents someone in need, and we are proud to continue serving our community with the highest level of professionalism and reliability. None of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our members, our families, and the citizens we are honored to protect.
