A highlight of each semester: Community English students getting their own Madison Public Library cards! Having a library card unlocks so many community resources, and we are grateful for the library's ongoing partnership to introduce students to the magic of our local library system!

We're pleased to welcome tutor Mark Pilarski as a new Board Member! Mark says, "I think it is wonderful and exciting to be part of the learning experience. In the 1-on-1 teaching experience one can have an immediate and powerful impact on the formation of ideas and perspectives. As a student, I have felt that impact from a few great minds I have been fortunate enough to be associated with. As a tutor, I am just hoping to be able to communicate some of the excitement of learning that I have experienced.” Welcome, Mark!

Congratulations to ESL student Mariama on her 2026 Altrusa scholarship! Mariama is studying nursing at Madison College. Way to go!

Thank you, AT&T, for a $50,000 community investment!

This funding will help expand our Essential Literacy program, which provides one-on-one tutoring in reading, writing, basic computer skills, and online tools. These skills help adults navigate everyday needs like applying for jobs or housing, managing finances, communicating with schools, and staying connected.

Thank you to AT&T staff, Literacy Network board, volunteers, students, Madison's Deputy Mayor Linda Vakunta, Dane County District 23 Supervisor Chuck Erickson, and Madison Common Council Alder Tag Evers for joining us to celebrate!

Applications close Sunday! Literacy Network is hiring fall semester interns ($15/hr) to support our tutoring programs. Grow skills in lesson planning, teaching, interpersonal communication, and volunteer management through mentorship and training.
