A mere 8 days until the EP release! There will be multiple ways to listen to the new album: I'll have it up on select streaming services, on a CD, loaded on a flash drive, on a tiny mp3 player, or it can be downloaded from my Bandcamp. I've also been replenishing the merch, which I'll set out at the release party at on 3/20.

I'm a DIY kid, there's magick in the things we make. I made the bracelets, hand-painted the shirts and coffee mugs, and I personally loaded the flash drives and mp3 players with 4 of my albums. The logo art are my own designs, 7 out of 8 album art designs are my own; and German used the designs to create etched glass, stickers, and buttons.

Whoever goes home with anything from my table hopefully leaves with something one-of-a-kind ✨

Trying to raise $1,000 to help fund my new EP release and to take it on tour in April...I'm not doing a gofundme...INSTEAD, I'm directing potential donors to my bandcamp page...aaaand it happens to be Bandcamp Friday! is waiving their already modest fee so Artists get 100% of any sales today.....

Step 1) go to musicbydana.bandcamp.com

Step 2) select album download of choice to purchase, even if you already have it

Step 3) when it comes time to pay, bandcamp will give you a "pay more" option, cuz they're awesome n s**t. Select that option and drop your donation there!

Anyone who drops $50 or more will get a seriously cool gift from me, that will likely include something involving this awesome custom wax seal kit that German gifted me 💪♥️

I can't wait to share these recordings with everyone. My dear friend Dustin at Warm Glow Studios has been a blast to work with as always. Jenna Joanis has been the cheese to my musical macaroni for a decade now, and I'm honored and amazed she still finds time to drum for me. Dan Kennedy's skills and kindness are unmatched, his bass and guitar are dreamy. Kelly Hepper has been my Sister-in-Song for many years, her talents are multi-dimensional.

And hey! Not only is Dan's band Two Trick Pony gonna release an EP as well, but Kelly is gathering the talented Mo'Onions dudes to give a full-band sound to her own original music! With all 3 groups we're gonna make some core memories together, oh how I do hope friends and Listeners will save the date and join us 💪♥️

Ah, yes. The Solstice.

My Gramma, the Matriarch of the family, raised 5 children mostly by herself. At Christmas time, she wanted her kids to take turns opening gifts one at a time, so she could see the look on their faces and enjoy the moment they opened her gift. Being a very low-income family, it may have only been one or two "dollar store" gifts a piece, it didn't matter. The gift was never the point. The point was giving it, and sharing the moment together. It's a tradition she carried as her kids grew and had their own kids.

Christmas dinner was sometimes the usual turkey-n-such, but sometimes we simply didn't have the money for a big spread. So we'd have spaghetti or pizza, or various aunts and uncles working in food service would sometimes bring home extra leftovers from the restaurant and that was Christmas dinner. As we grew up it got a little easier; and even though we could likely afford the full "traditional" spread eventually, dinner stayed more of a potluck, everyone bringing something to the table.

Over the years, the family grew and grew...and fast-forward to well over 50 years later, there are damn-near 30 bodies at my family's Christmas and these traditions STILL stand today. Everyone in the family gets everyone else a gift - doesn't matter if it's a dollar tree gift - and everyone takes turns opening all of the gifts. One gift, one at a time. It takes hours upon hours, depending on how focused we are and how antsy the kids are, how restless the smokers are, etc. And dinner consists of a veritable buffet of anything from spaghetti to casserole to fried chicken.

Gramma made her Great Transition back into The Big Everything a few years ago, I miss her and talk to her all the time. I used to sit next to her during presents, poking her every so often when I'd catch her dozing in the 4th or 5th hour, sayin' "haha, wake up Gramma! You started this s**t!" 😂

I go home for the chaos of that one day, but the rest of my winter is very different when I'm alone. No tree. No decor. No concept of Christmas until the day of. Just music within pure Silence. Inward reflection. Hibernation.

And often, the entirety of Joni Mitchell's "Blue" album.

Pinch me, for I am surely dreaming...do I really get to share an evening of noise making with these incredibly Divine, fierce, raw, stunningly beautiful creatures? Ya know, usually this is the point where I say stuff like "come to my show!" but ya know...I'm not sure if THIS particular show is for everyone, so maybe check in with yourself first...

Ask yourself things like:

Am I doing a high level of internal questioning lately?

Have I been seeking some kind of permission for something?

Have I been emotionally sensitive lately?

Am I ok with crying into a beer in public space with others who are also crying into their beers in public space?

Can I give myself a mere two hours on a Thursday night, to bring my physical body to a physical location where real live people are physically making real music?

Am I ok to level up?
..because we will be singing songs of births and deaths, joys and pains, Love and Creation, bloody dirt and grit, directly into your person, and the night may leave a permanent stain that will be impossible to wash out...

Just sayin'.

"Imagine that I am on stage
Under a watch tower of punishing light
And in the haze is your face bathed in shadow
And what's beyond you is hidden from sight
And somebody right now is yawning
And watching me like a TV
And I have been frantically piling up sandbags
Against the flood waters of fatigue and insecurity.......then suddenly I hear my guitar sing
And so I just start singing along
And somewhere in my chest all the noise just gets
Crushed by the song..."
- Ani DiFranco, Imagine That

Oh Wisconsin, why are you so devastatingly beautiful? Every year during that magical 3 weeks in October you explode in this painfully fu***ng magnificent sploosh of color, and we get to witness it up close.

This month of this year marks 20 years of playing guitar and songwriting. It'd be fun to somehow know the actual "stats" in 20 years of playing...if I had to do a roundabout guess:

- hundreds of songs, played thousands of times
- hundreds of bar gigs, hundreds of coffee shop gigs, dozen-or-so big stages, hundreds of sidewalks and shop corners and back yards played, approximately one yarn store...all together totalling thousands of shows
- thousands of miles traveled
- a bazillion strings snapped and picks lost

Keep swiping through pics and see one of the first ever show posters with (18ish years ago?) and our first Folk U gathering 🥹

My music is not for everyone. I've seen it bring folks to life-changing tears AND I've seen it make folks leave the room in a big pissy huff...which is fu***ng beautiful if u ask me. If you're lucky enough as a music maker, you should experience both of these reactions and everything in between.

This tune by always nails it. Grateful to be a music maker ♥️

New song. The Spark. Title track off the new EP I'm working on. I suppose it's a call-to-action of sorts, to Awaken fully to the divine Truth of what we really are, and to jump fully into the Here and Now with our full selves, despite whatever train wreckage...to be in full surrender to whatever comes, knowing it's all a part of the Journey...

Everything in the "external" is created from the Internal, "reality" is meticulously and purposefully hand-crafted by US. Everything is a mirror, an invitation to come face-to-face with our own faces, to zoom in to the inner workings of ourselves...look reeeeeeally deep in there dude, look soooo deep as if into your own pupils somehow, stick a big salty finger waaaaaay down deep into that black hole and poke around in there...see what Exists beneath the surface of what you think you are, and you just may come to find the big giant salty fingertip of Creation poking down on you from the Cosmos...

May you unleash the YOUest YOU that ever YOUed...
