This lovely big tree is a Honey Locust, and most of those you see in town are thornless and podless thanks to human intervention and science.
The suckers that are coming out of the trunk on this one have re-naturalized, protesting humanityâs efforts for a kindler gentler tree.
The spikes are present to prevent large Pleistocene herbivores like Mastadons from eating the foliage. If you see one of those near your Honey Locust please text or call us at 608-234-5935!

Hereâs a Norway Maple wound that was trying to close over with wound wood. This process is called Ramâs Horning đ.
Tree tissue doesnât repair itself like ours does. The wounds exist within the tree for as long as the tree lives.
Trees produce wound wood to try to contain the wound within new tissue.
