Sweeney Design Remodel
Started in 1954, Sweeney is a residential design-build firm in Madison, WI specializing in kitchen a Trust, quality, tradition.
The Sweeney legacy, based on these three principles, began with company founder Herb Sweeney in 1954. Herb’s sons learned the construction trade first-hand by listening to their father and gradually acquiring the skills that they would use as they played an increasingly larger role in the Sweeney bath and kitchen remodeling business. Today, proprietors Tim and Linda Sweeney continue Herb’s legacy with an emphasis on family as they nurture an expanding staff and place highly skilled tradespeople in positions where they excel as they help customers’ bath and kitchen dreams come true. Sweeney’s extensive history and long-standing community involvement have made Sweeney Construction a fixture in the Madison area for over 60 years.

September is when the countdown quietly begins. 🍂
First comes football season. Then Thanksgiving. And suddenly your house is full of people, food, and approximately 47 dishes that need somewhere to go. 🥂
If entertaining tends to expose what isn’t working in your home, pay attention:
🍽️ A cramped kitchen
🪑 Limited seating
🚶 Awkward traffic flow
🥘 Nowhere to set out food
These everyday frustrations can tell you a lot about what to address in a future remodel.
Design for Tuesday-night dinner, absolutely.
But design for the holidays, too. ✨
When you host, where does everyone inevitably end up? 👇

Pinterest boards are fun. Choosing tile is fun. And watching the cabinetry finally go in? That’s pretty exciting.
But some of the most important remodeling decisions happen long before any of that.
How does your family use the room?
What isn’t working now?
What needs to be stored?
How might your needs change five or ten years from now?
Thoughtful remodeling starts with asking the right questions. Those answers help shape the layout, storage, flow, and function before you ever get to the finishes.
That’s how you create a home that works well for you now and continues to feel right years from now.
If you could make one room in your home work better, which would you choose?

👏 Congratulations to Brett, the newest recipient of the Sweeney Metronome Award!
Presented twice each year, the Metronome Award recognizes a team member who exemplifies three qualities at the heart of Sweeney Design Remodel:
🔹 To Measure — performing their work with accuracy and consistency
🔹 I Manage — working efficiently and collaboratively as part of the team
🔹 I Lead — actively looking for new and better ways to move our company forward
Each recipient is selected by the previous award winner, making the recognition especially meaningful.
Over the past year, Brett has demonstrated all three. In addition to his regular responsibilities at Sweeney, he completed his term as President of the NARI Madison Chapter, helped develop the organization’s one-, three-, and ten-year strategic plans, and participated in local high school trades day events.
He has also stepped up to take on a greater leadership role within Sweeney as Tim transitions out of sales.
Brett’s commitment to our team, our industry, and the greater Madison trades community is something we’re proud to recognize.
Congratulations, Brett! Well deserved. 🎉

When designing a kitchen, creating a dedicated space for the things you use every day can help keep countertops organized and make routines more convenient. Add nearby storage for mugs, beans, and other essentials, and everything you need is right where you want it.
For coffee lovers planning a kitchen remodel, it’s one feature worth making room for.
Would a dedicated coffee station be on your kitchen wish list? ☕

Waterproofing is something you definitely want done right the first time. 👀
On this project, opening up the walls revealed more rot than expected. Addressing it properly meant replacing damaged framing, carefully removing and resetting the stone, rebuilding the waterproofing system, and feathering everything back together so the finished repair looks intentional, not patched.
Waterproofing details matter. Taking the extra time to get them right now can help prevent water intrusion, structural damage, and a much more expensive problem down the road.
See how our team tackled it in the video. 🎥
Do it right. Remodel Better.

A herringbone pattern gives this Madison wet bar just the right amount of personality. ✨
The glossy blue tile adds movement, texture, and color, while the clean quartz countertop keeps the overall look balanced.
Smaller spaces like a wet bar can be a great place to introduce a bolder material or pattern without overwhelming the room.

What if your kitchen barely looked like a kitchen? 👀
The “anti-kitchen” design approach is gaining attention for its ability to conceal many of the features we typically associate with a kitchen. Think panel-ready appliances, hidden storage, flush cabinetry, integrated lighting, and clean surfaces that allow the kitchen to blend seamlessly with the surrounding living spaces.
Achieving that streamlined look takes careful planning. Storage, appliances, lighting, ventilation, cabinetry, and even electrical and plumbing locations all need to work together from the beginning.
In our latest blog, we explore how the hidden-kitchen approach works, what it takes to execute it well, and whether it could be a good fit for your Madison-area home.
Would you hide almost everything, or keep a few statement kitchen features on display?
