Last week some of our L311 members took part in a rope rescue technician course. The Madison Fire Department hosted its first-ever 40-hour CMC Rope Rescue Technician I/II. 10 members of Madison’s Heavy Urban Rescue Team trained all week at various sites across the city like MATC, MG&E, and Camp Randall. It culminated in scenario-based exercises at the Kohl Center.
Members of other departments also took part in the training. They were from Beloit, Cottage Grove, Stoughton, Verona, and the SAFER Fire District. Thank you to CMC instructors LeRoy Harbach and Mark Rickbeil.
Lunches donated by Paul Davis, Mission BBQ, Firehouse Subs, Madison Fire Admin, L311/LJ’s Sports Tavern.

Over the past few days, L311’s leadership attended the IAFF Fallen Firefighter Memorial.
Held annually at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs, the IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial honors the brothers and sisters across the United States and Canada who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty or passed away from occupational illnesses.
During the solemn weekend ceremonies, thousands of fire personnel gather to surround the families of the fallen with support as the names of those we have lost are permanently etched into the granite memorial walls.
President Mahlon Mitchell, Vice President Kevin Sherry, and Secretary Treasurer Peter Friedericks represented Fire Fighters Local 311 at this year’s memorial ceremony.

Thanks to L311 supporters for sending us these photos from yesterday’s tech rescue response. Eastside Madison L311 members helped rescue some workers when their truck suffered a mechanical issue high in the air. Madison’s E11 and Station 8’s HURT (Heavy Urban Rescue Team) members responded. No injuries with the quick mitigation.
