Madison Fire and Rescue

We would like to take a moment to congratulate six of our firefighters who graduated from the Alabama Fire College’s Paramedic Program today. This is a grueling year long program that consists of many classes, almost five hundred clinical hours, and requires a lot of sacrifices and dedication. They not only graduated from this program today, but every single one of them passed their National Registry exam on their very first attempt and will soon be treating patients in the field.

We teach all our of classes and do all of our skill stations at the Madison Public Safety Annex. So we would also like to thank Captain Richard Ennis for leading this group as the Alabama Fire College’s site coordinator at Madison Fire and Rescue.

We would also like to thank the Alabama Fire College and all of our community partners such as our area hospitals, surgery centers, and HEMSI where these students do their clinical rotations that include pediatric, obstetric, psychiatric, emergency room, surgical trauma, and much more to meet the required skills, hours, and patient contacts needed to graduate.

This was a very busy week, great work.

Well, to not be out done by C-Shift, A-Shift decided they wanted in on the action too. The beginning of their tour started out with a report of a vehicle into a house just after shift change. Then, throughout their tour they responded to 53 calls for service ranging from medical calls, vehicle accidents, a shooting victim, and more.

Then just after 11PM, they were dispatched to the 100 Block of Paul Revere Drive for the report of a house on fire. Engine 3 arrived on scene a few minutes later to find a two-story single family dwelling with smoke showing and located a fire that was still in the early growth stages due to their rapid response. A single attack line was stretched and the fire was extinguished quickly. The searches were negative and all companies returned to service after checking for extension and overhauling the fire area.

They also took time on their second day to freshen up the ground ladders on Ladder 1 by getting the tips and balance points repainted after their daily workout.

Today marks an exciting day for the Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs as we proudly swear in our new Executive Board.

A busy tour for our C-Shift crews. In the past two days they’ve responded to 48 calls for service with a range of natures. Yesterday they responded to a trash truck on fire, several medical calls and vehicle accidents, and then at 5:40PM a call came in for a house on fire in the 200 Block of Coach Lamp Dr.

Battalion 1 went on scene to find a two story single family residence with smoke and flames showing from an attached garage and established Command. Engine 1 arrived and stretched a single attack line to extinguish the fire while Ladder 1 completed primary searches. The fire was held to the area of origin, all searches were negative, and overhaul was completed by later arriving units.

Madison firefighters received a call for a house on fire in the 600 Block of Crescent Cir just after 11:30 PM last night.

They arrived on scene to find light smoke showing from the home and quickly found the source, which was a small fire in the rear and in the crawlspace of the home.

The fire was extinguished and the smoke was ventilated from the home, all occupants were out upon arrival.

The heat isn’t the only thing our firefighters have been battling. Madison firefighters responded to two working fires last week.

The first one was an attached garage fire in the middle of a group of row homes, putting exposures on both sides. Engine 1 arrived on scene to find heavy fire showing and communicating up the front of the building. They stretched two attack lines to begin extinguishing the fire and due to a close hydrant, they established their own water supply. All other units assisted in searches, exposure protection, ladders, and fire attack.

The second working fire was a mutual aid request to the 100 Block of Huston Ct with Monrovia Fire and Rescue and other area departments for a single family dwelling fire that came in as an automatic fire alarm. Madison supported the request with manpower and all departments made a quick stop on the fire.

We appreciate the hard work they put in everyday to be prepared for the elements.
