The NEED Project
Over 45 Years of Putting Energy into Education!
NEED is always expanding and evolving to best meet the needs of teachers and students, in the classroom and beyond! The NEED Project has a curriculum portfolio of over 100 teacher and student guides designed to teach teachers and students about energy. The training opportunities offered by NEED include a multitude of teacher professional development and training for school district energy personnel. NEED’s work in after-school programs, student clubs, scouting groups, and home school networks also continues to grow. One of our strongest elements is that we bring all the forms of energy into one comprehensive picture, and at every grade level.

If you have been to a NEED workshop or conference, you are likely familiar with our Science of Electricity Model.
Electricity is a necessary part of our daily lives. To many, it is a mystery. This hands-on, modeling and design activity allows students to visualize more simply what is involved in the generation of electricity. Students create their own model generator, using magnets, wire, and simple lab items.
This activity serves as a great introduction to electricity generation for any energy source, as well as strongly reinforces the requisite scientific process, problem solving, and engineering and design skills students must possess and utilize to meet standards for learning.
