Perry and sons all started when Delphino Perry migrated to the United States from the Azores Islands of Portugal at the tender age of 16 to begin a new chapter in his family, farming. Delphino established a dairy and began farming to lay the foundation of what later would become George Perry and Sons, Inc. In 1963, the family decided to sell the dairy and direct 100% of their efforts to farming. In 1965 George expanded the family business and began buying and selling watermelons from local growers in order to fulfill the ever increasing demand for this tasty summertime treat. As the Perry family has grown so has the operation. Art and George Perry, Jr, along with the next generation of Perry’s have expanded the farming operation and strengthened the business, becoming one of the largest shippers and handlers of watermelons, pumpkins and squash in California. 🔥BBQ PUMPKIN? Well sort of! And it’s not that we just got a Traeger, it’s that somebody just started putting pumpkins and squash on it!! YUM, YUM, YUM! Prep time is 5 minutes, cook time (depending on the size of your pumpkin) about 1 ½ to 2 hours.
ℹ️ Start your Traeger on smoke, until the fire is ready or reaches 350 degrees. While that’s happening choose a good looking pumpkin (Any Pery & Sons pumpkin will do), about 10-15 pounds, give it a good rinse, but off the stem, slice in half. Scoop the seeds out, brush with olive oil, put cut side down on the grill. Smoke/grill for about 30 minutes. Turn it over cut side up and Smoke/grill for another 30-45 minutes, until the flesh is tender. Season to your liking…
