SSJID enjoyed spending an evening with neighbors, families, and local vendors at Escalon’s final farmers market of the season. From conversations at the booth to activities for kids, staff had the chance to connect with those they serve and share more about the District’s work.

While Escalon’s market has wrapped up for the year, there are still plenty of opportunities to shop local and support growers. The Ripon Farmers Market continues on Thursdays through the end of September, and the Manteca Farmers Market is open on Saturdays through October 31.

For more than a century, agriculture has helped shape SSJID’s service area, and the District is proud to remain connected to the people that make it thrive.

As a reminder, SSJID offices will be closed Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day and will reopen Tuesday, September 8.

The SSJID Board of Directors meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, unless otherwise noted.

Last month, SSJID General Manager Peter Rietkerk joined industry professionals, farmers, and federal agency representatives at the California 5th District Water and Agricultural Forum, hosted by Congressman Tom McClintock.

Discussions focused on the future of California’s resources, the needs of the Central Valley, and continued coordination among those who serve the region. Rietkerk represented SSJID, alongside Tri-Dam Project General Manager Summer Nicotero.

SSJID Board Member Glenn Spyksma was also in attendance, along with representatives from Stockton East Water District, Oakdale Irrigation District, Modesto Irrigation District, and Turlock Irrigation District.

Events like this create an important space to exchange perspectives, strengthen partnerships, and advocate for the communities and growers we serve.
