Rep. Ritter Encourages Ohioans to Support Local Produce While Following Food Safety
Guidance

COLUMBUS, OHIO – State Representative Kevin Ritter (R-Marietta) today encouraged Ohio families to consider purchasing fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables, noting that Ohio-grown produce has not been identified as the source of the recent Cyclospora outbreak under investigation by federal health officials. Current investigations have focused on specific products and supply chains, including imported iceberg lettuce from central Mexico, not produce grown by Ohio farmers.

“Local farms are the backbone of our communities,” said Rep. Ritter. “I understand the recent Cyclospora outbreak has raised concerns for families in the 94th District. However, it’s important to know that Ohio-grown fruits and vegetables have not been identified as the source of this outbreak at this time. I hope members of the community will continue supporting our local farmers and businesses by enjoying the fresh, high-quality produce grown right here in Ohio.”

Representative Ritter said he has heard from growers in the district who are experiencing declining sales because of widespread concern over recent national news coverage.
