If your training flyer reads like a lesson plan, complete with course goals, learning objectives, methodology, instructor philosophy, six paragraphs of course description, and enough text to qualify for college credit...

I can only imagine what your PowerPoint slides look like. 😬

Here’s a tip:

Your flyer is a movie trailer, not the entire movie.

Give me the title.
Give me the hook.
Give me the essential details.
Give me a reason to want to know more.

You don’t need to introduce the entire cast, explain every scene, reveal the ending, and roll the credits.

Create interest. Get them to stop scrolling. Make them want the next piece of information.

If they need 15 minutes to read your flyer, you didn’t make a flyer. You assigned homework.

Do better. Simplify it.

Another truly meaningful moment this week at the 2026 National Accreditation Conference in Columbus, Ohio was getting to connect with my ILEETA brother, Mike Warren, an outstanding trainer, CEO of Command Presence Training, and host of the acclaimed Faces of Leadership podcast.

Mike presented a general session right after mine, so once I finished, I got to jump to the other side of the stage, grab a seat, and catch his presentation.

Great connecting with you, brother. Thank you for the advice, the conversation, and the offer. I genuinely appreciate it.

Some encounters at a conference just hit a little differently.

I had the honor of meeting Kelly Alzaharna, who stopped by the authors’ table at the 2026 National Accreditation Conference, introduced herself, and picked up not only a copy of The Ultimate Police Trainer’s Playbook, but Z-Card PRO as well.

Considering Kelly’s impressive career, from serving as Chief of Police with the North Slope Borough PD in Alaska, to leading New Mexico’s law enforcement standards POST, and now her work with IADLEST’s national and international instructor certification programs, having her invest in something I created was genuinely meaningful to me.

Even better, I had her front and center during my presentation. No pressure there! LOL

Kelly, thank you for the great conversations, the trust, and the support. It was truly an honor meeting you.

I tried to capture photos with as many of you as I could, but I definitely missed some. Sometimes we simply got submerged in great conversations, exchanging ideas, talking training, and connecting.

Thank you for your trust, your incredible feedback, and for choosing to take a piece of my work home with you.

My second presentation at the 2026 National Accreditation Conference in Columbus, Ohio wasn’t a general session like yesterday’s, but the mission was the same: give those in the room actionable tools they can actually use.

Today’s BEYOND BULLET POINTS session was about elevating the quality of our training slides through simple, practical techniques, and learning to recognize the slide-decoration traps before committing yet another Death by PowerPoint slide crime.
