ICSC's Family-Focused Retail study backs up what we saw in our own Cultivating Insights report: time and money are tight, so convenience and value win every time. The centers pulling ahead are the ones blending quick-stop retail with dining and family programming so parents can cross off errands and spend quality time in a single trip.
When property teams intentionally pair everyday essentials like grocers and dry cleaners with walkable green spaces, seasonal events, and sit-down dining, they turn a routine 15-minute errand into a two-hour family outing. That added dwell time is directly tied to higher foot traffic, increased tenant sales, and long-term asset value.
