Same words. Completely different meaning.

If you’ve been reporting for any length of time, you already know there are certain phrases that make us hear something very different from what was actually said.

Every so often, we court reporters need to check in with ourselves.

Better backups. Better briefs. Using the technology we already have. Asking for prep. Showing clients the value we bring. Small improvements add up.

After all these years, I’m still finding ways to improve.

I mean, a girl needs options, right?

Okay, this one is definitely me. 😂

My desk just got a little upgrade — the Logitech POP Bluetooth Mouse in purple. I totally bought it because it was cute. So far, I’m really liking it! It’s Bluetooth, comfortable to use, and it works with both Mac and Windows, which is a big plus for those of us who may work across different computers.

When you spend as many hours as we do producing transcripts, I say our hands — and our desks — deserve a little something fun, too. 💜

There are some lessons you only need to learn once. Never assume the outlet will be anywhere near where they put the court reporter.

Someone says a great phrase in conversation and everyone else just keeps talking. Meanwhile, my brain has already moved on to: There has to be a brief for that.

Please tell me I’m not the only one who sees the typo before I see what I want to order. And then I can’t unsee it. 😂

My steno-brain confession: I can’t just watch TV. I hear a word or phrase and immediately think about how I’d write it in steno.

Apparently, the steno brain never really turns off. 😊
