Calvary Rescue Mission

Friday night our friends, the Tucker Family, provided and served a delicious fried catfish, hushpuppies and fries dinner. During chapel, Chris Tucker led us in song and Charles Tucker shared God’s Word. At the end of chapel two men answered God’s call to follow Him!

We had another great group from St Mark’s Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Iowa, serving with Praying Pelican Ministries visit Calvary Thursday night. They provided and served hotdogs, hamburgers, and French fries. During chapel the Tim and David Band were joined with Richard Baird, who also gave a powerful message about Joseph. At the end of chapel four men accepted God’s free gift of salvation.

It is always a great night when our friends from Rossville Baptist Church come to Calvary Rescue Mission. Wednesday night they provided and served a delicious meal of country fried steak with gravy, mashed potatoes, fried okra and mac and cheese. During chapel, Pastor Toby Stone shared his testimony along with his mugshots.

This week's Prayer Letter for Calvary Rescue Mission:
Dear Prayer Warriors,

One of the greatest dangers in life isn't always the choices we make—it's the people we allow to shape those choices.

This week, I've been reflecting on the lives of two men who couldn't have started any better: Elvis Presley and King Solomon.

Elvis was raised in church, surrounded by Christian influences, and gifted with one of the greatest voices the world has ever heard. Solomon was the son of King David, blessed by God with unmatched wisdom, wealth, and influence. Yet both men eventually surrounded themselves with people who encouraged their flesh instead of their faith. Their stories remind us of a sobering truth: the people closest to us are shaping us.

Every day at Calvary Rescue Mission, we meet men who have experienced this reality firsthand. Many of them didn't wake up one morning intending to become addicted, homeless, or estranged from their families. More often than not, their decline happened one compromise at a time, one relationship at a time, one bad influence at a time.

But by God's grace, that story doesn't have to end there.

One of the greatest gifts God gives the men at Calvary Rescue Mission is a new community. Instead of people encouraging addiction, they find brothers who encourage sobriety. Instead of friends leading them deeper into sin, they find men who pray with them, study God's Word with them, worship beside them, and lovingly hold them accountable.

We believe lasting transformation happens when hearts are changed by the gospel and lives are surrounded by godly influences.

It was a fantastic night at Calvary Rescue Mission Tuesday night with Germantown Baptist Church Youth Choir serving dinner and leading chapel service. They provided and served a delicious pulled pork dinner with beans and slaw. During chapel the youth did a puppet show and Gary Miller shared a message from Mark 15.

Monday night our Friends of Calvary provided and served a delicious fried chicken dinner and our great friend, Dennis Kirk, Pastor of Tennessee Ridge Baptist Church, shared a powerful message that led 1 man to repent and follow Jesus.

Our good friend, Mark Brommer, filled in Friday night to lead our chapel service. He gave a message from Ephesians 1:3-14 and 7 men surrendered their will to follow our Lord.

It was a fantastic night at Calvary Rescue Mission Thursday night with 2 great teams serving the men. F3 (Fitness, Fellowship and Faith) provided and served a delicious meal of smoked chicken sandwiches with baked beans and potato salad. After dinner, a group of youth from Grace Point Church in Douglas, Georgia, led our chapel service. They led us in songs, 2 students gave their testimonies, and their Youth Pastor gave a powerful message about Saul/Paul. At the end of chapel 5 men and 2 students responded to God’s call to follow Him.

Our good friend and faithful servant, Phil Weatherwax ("Moose" as Dr Adrian Rogers called him) led our chapel service Wednesday night. He shared a message from John 10 and our Lord led 4 men into salvation.
